Belfast City Airport - 02/03/10

Following in the footsteps of Keith, only a day late, I decided to head to the airport this morning for half an hour, having stayed the night at a friends house who lives within a mile of the airport.
 
Unfortunately I arrived slightly early with the sun not even risen from behind the hill making photography tricky but interesting none the less.
 
I also saw a good few aircraft heading into Aldergrove (BFS), including a plain white liveried Airbus A300F which glided gracefully overhead. It took me a while to figure out who it belongs to however research indicates it's owned by Air Atlanta Icelandic, registered TF-ELK, whom have leased it to TNT for a year. It previously operated for Etihad Cargo, and has since been repainted.

There's definitely something to be said about the early bird. Colours in these are fantastic. Lovely shots.

Number one rule for spotting... Morning sunlight produces some gorgous light for photography    And even if it means you freeze your toes off down beside Ikea, it's worth it. Thursday looking like a good clear day, cough cough.
 
After sunrise, I had about 15 minutes before a large cloud rolled over the airport for the remainder of the morning. I must say, it's fantastic having Easyjet at BHD!

As things stand, we're in for a week of sun next week, but the long term weather forecasts can never be trusted. Even if the weathers good on Sunday morning... theres very few aircraft movements until after noon.

Take a tip from me if your standing about a lot waiting and suffer from cold feet-get yourself some good quality ski tubes/socks without seams,and buy a pair of apres-ski boots.(You can get plain black ones).
 
They are fleece lined,verylight and warm and keep your toes toasty-you could also use those gel filled hand warmers in your boots/pockets if it is really Baltic.

I thought I was doing well to squeeze on 3 pairs of thick socks, alas, they were not enough to keep the cold out I suppose my thin trainers don't help things much! I don't have any proper thick shoes to wear.

Multiple pair of socks actually make your feet colder because they restrict the bloodflow;I worked in Italy for a few years in ski resorts as a ski instructor/ski technician so I know far too much about feet and circulation.
 
A good tip is to cut out some cardboard insoles and put them in your trainers( helps get your feet away from the cold ground);but best solution is the apres-ski boots as mentioned before (£30 should be enough). Try Jackson Sports in High Street or Tiso-don`t go to Ski and Sport (cheap,nasty and crap )

Really?    I was going to try wearing 5 pairs of socks tomorrow. You reckon that'll be worse? I guess I could slip in an extra set of soles into the trainers I'm using.
