Help required on purchasing binoculars

I'm hoping Santa will bring me a pair of binoculars for Christmas and was looking for some advice.


As well as viewing flights to and from the International and the Harbour, I would also would like to view transatlantic aircraft.


I'm not sure if 12x50 or 16x50 would be sufficient for viewing transatlantic flights. Can anyone advise. Thanks

I got a good pair of Trikon 10-30x50 in Argos a few years ago - not too expensive either.Gives you a bit of range with magnification like a zoom lens.Easily see the tails of the biggies going overhead on a clear day

hi like all things it depends on your budget and type of binos you want,i have had a pair of cannon i.s 10x30 these are really good for watching high level aircraft.
they are also stabilized so the aircraft do not wobble while you are trying to identify them.i use them almost on a daily basis for work and after using these you wont want to use ordinary binos again.
sadly the prices range from £350 to £1000 for bigger units.
