Just wondering if any one knows why Alitalia have an EI- registration and no tan I-?

They are leased from a Irish based company,so they have to be regestered in Ireland, I believe Ireland is one of the biggest aircraft leasing countrys in the world......
Have you ever looked at the Irish aircraft register?  There are a lot of aircraft on there that would supprise people, 777s, 747s,MD-11s and lots of A319s,A320s etc...   I doubt if they would all fit if they had to all come home.....

Thanks H, thought it was something like that but wasn't sure. Seems a bit strange that a national airline doesn't own any planes, or few planes. Can you imagine a BA plane with an EI- reg lol

The Russian airline Transaero Airlines also have aircraft with Irish registrations. It's something I've always thought was odd as 90% of these aircraft will never end up within Ireland.
 
It's the same for the Isle of Mann, there are many 747's, MD-11's, A330's, A340's and 777's on the Manx register, yet all of them are too large to land at the only airport on the Island (Ronoldsway).

Same sort of thing if you look at many Russian airlines aircraft, quite a few don't have RA- reg, but VP-, VB- etc, although I think theirs IS to do with tax purposes?
