if you lived in a sleepy suburb of a large city and they announced that they were going to build a new airport very close to you, would you object? Or would you look for to seeing aircraft morning, noon and night?

Comments :)

Of course not!  As it is now, I live about 25 miles from Detroit Metro airport, right under the turn-in point for the main runways  I've got planes flying about 4,000 feet overhead constantly, and I wish I was closer.

May they rest in peace, those graceful masters of the sky...

Happiness is Tomcat-Shaped.

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning.

Possibly    but I know some people who enjoy aircraft but also like peace and quiet. They don't mind going to airshows, reading aviation publications etc, but wouldn't like them constantly overhead throughout the day.

I live approx 25 miles from Aldergrove airport and although I'm not exactly under the flight path (but close) I do still get a good view of the majority of in-bound flights. Also get to see the contrails of alot of transatlantic flights. Some mornings I can see as many as 4 or 5 jets and a number of old contrails in the sky :)

I also happen to live between (RAF) Aldergrove and a number of army camps throughout the country so I get to see alot of Lynx, Gazelle, Puma, Chinook and Islanders.
