Lens advice (portraits)

A friend has the same camera as myself. But he would like to know what lens is best for portraits, I think the DT50mm F1.8 SAM lens is a good choice for the Sony A200 but is there a better one than that.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the Sony system as I use Canon. I do have a 50mm 1.8 and it's just a piece of cheap plastic but I swear by it for image quality. For portraits anything between 50mm and 105mm is more that adequate.
