Forthcoming Air (Type) Shows in Northern Ireland
« on: July 22, 2011, 12:34:22 PM »
Folks I believe there are a few Air (Type) Shows which will be taking place in Northern Ireland in the next couple of months.

I think we all know about the Portrush show but does anyone have any information about

1) Newcastle? - Red Arrows display and possibly a few other things like Irish Air Corps and a Mustang??

2) Seaplane Festival at St Angelo? - End of September I believe. I have heard there may be 1 or possibly 2 Catalina Flying Boats in attendance.

Lets see what we can find out about these events rather than staring up at the sky!!

Just checking and it looks like the Plane Sailing Catalina will be at St. Angelo during the period 22 September 2011 - 25 September 2011

Also looks like a Fly-in scheduled for the 14th August

There's also the Heli-Challenge on the 27th/28th August

Info on the Newcastle Festival Of Flight is rather hard to find online, there is some on the Cool FM site, but that`s mainly concerning the musical events happening.

From what I can find aircraft displays are:

Red Arrows (Sat only)
BBMF Lancaster B1 (both days?)
Irish Coastguard SAR demo
Irish Air Corps Casa (unconfirmed)
Spitfire or Mustang display (unconfirmed)

There are a few other aircraft that I have heard mentioned by a few people, that may or may not be appearing-rumours basically.

It`s a matter of wading through a load of air display websites and see what might be there.

I had heard Team Reva might be displaying;saw them at the last Newtownards/Enniskillen Airshows and they are very good.
I noticed from the flyer that the BBMF Lancaster is missing-must check the BBMF website to see if it`s coming or not.
I won`t be able to make it,but hope it goes well.

Just an update on the Newcastle event .. BBMF Lanc cancelled due to shortage of available pilots that weekend ... Seafire probably not here either after her prang in France  :'(   .... bad few weeks for lovers of warbirds ... Seafire damaged in belly landing .. P51 Mustang "Big Beautifull Doll" destroyed after mid air with another aircraft[pilot safe] and the major loss of B17 bomber "Aluminium Overcoat" after a crash landing in the States.

Gutted that the LANC won't make it. Every event I go to it doesn't show.

Hi Casper n thanx for the welcome

Ringo .. there still is a very small thread of hope .. PA474 had about 10 display/flypasts that weekend and most have been hit on the head but the BBMF have kept the slots open in the hope that the pilot situation changes between now and that weekend  :D

If they need to train someone up on a bit of a crash course I'd be more than happy to sign up!

Excellent  ;D

Now all we need is good weather next weekend.

Just out of curiosity, who all is planning to attend and where do you plan to spot from?

Looking at last years pics it seems that being outside Newcastle (Dundrum, I think) was just as good a spot as being on the Newcastle promenade.

Dundrum,if your up at the castle is possibly a fair vantage point although your still about 5 miles from crowd centre so good bino's and a long range lens !!  crowd centre last year seemed to be around the bridge on the main st. We were on the sand just below the bridge so not too jam packed although this year the tide tables suggest a high tide around midday -3pm so mightnt be much sand !! Weather wise , well you know how innacurate a science that can be !! lol but most seem to suggest
Overcast
min 10°C windchill 6°C
max 15°C windchill 13°C
Moderate winds from north [not the blue skies of last year.]
I,ve been doing a bit of an update on the "Festival of Flight" facebook page 'cos the organisers werent very forthcoming with information !  >>>  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=244213672273204
