Airshow at Aldergrove in the 1980s'?
« on: January 04, 2011, 11:03:29 AM »
I can remember attending an airshow at Aldergrove (Civil Airport) in the 1980s, but can't remember the year. Can anyone help me out?  ???
Included in the flying display was, amongst other things, a Vulcan and a Mosquito.

I had photographs of the event, but they can't be found at the moment!

Steve.

My father used to work at the airport - and so we got to attend several of the shows. One of which had a Vulcan, ill ask him next time I see him (I was quite young then)

Was it 1985? Can you remember if Concorde landed? I think BA used it on the Heathrow shuttle. I stand to be corrected.

I was at that airshow myself (albeit much much younger!) and can still remember watching at the side of the runway as the Concorde did the flypast. I still have an old program from the event - somewhere. The airshow was briefly mentioned on a program on tv last night - "Those were the Days" - and there is some footage from it.

Think it can be found on:

The show I'm thinking of was around 1982/83, I think. Concorde was not at the event. I have posted photos, on the forum, of Concorde at Aldergrove on other occasions, once in 1983, but this was not that show.

The photographs from this show still refuse to surface!  >:(

I remember being there.
Concorde with the afterburners going and the B-17 Sally B was sitting beside the terminal.

Super day.

Found the date...better late than never...“The Vulcan last visited Northern Ireland in 1985 at Belfast International Airport’s last anniversary air display".

Interesting thread, I am certain my folks have some photos from the 87 airshow at home somewhere. Must try and dig them out. Definitely wasn't 84 as I didn't yet exist!

Concord by Paul J Harvey, on Flickr

Quite a departure, August 87, although not the highlight of the day that was a Spantax DC-8 that arrived about 6pm

Love the Concorde picture... excellent shot. Anyone got one of the Spantax DC-8 at Aldergrove?

I came across these photos on an old computer. No idea if these were scanned in or if I saved them from some website.

Is this the 87 show?
