Make sure airline defense works

Progress has been maddeningly slow on developing a system to protect U.S. commercial airliners from missile attacks by terrorists. But Congress would be foolish to mandate a new system before testing has proved it to be practical and effective.

I think I heard something about Lockheed-Martin offering an airport-based defense system for sale.  It had radar and lasers to detect and shoot down missiles near the airport.

May they rest in peace, those graceful masters of the sky...

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning.

I wonder are you thinking of the Skyguard by Northrop Grumman?

Yep that was it, guess I got a bit confused.

I wonder if we'll ever see it put in mass use.

It would be nice to see it but as with all new technology it will probably be over priced and over complicated.

Unfortunately it seems to protect from a missile strike on the airport so it's no good against a single shoulder launched SAM fired at an airliner 10 miles from the airport :(
