Camera settings on typical day

What settings do you guys use as a basis?

Normally I would tend to shot everything at ISO 200, Aperture size of F8 and have everything based off that. Wayne, you might use F5.6?

Anybody ever shoot at ISO 100? I'm hoping to move down to that now in order to reduce the grain in photos however with it comes a decrease is shutter speed so I might end up losing quality.

Any experiences, etc?

It really depends on what I'm shooting and what type of day it is. If it's jets then it's always around f7.1 - F8, hoping to get a speed of around 1/500th and 100 iso (but will bump this up to get the speed). If it's props then I switch to Tv mode and shoot at around 1/125th to 1/250th. I will bump the iso up if it's a dull day but I always try and keep it at 100. The settings I use also depend on the focal lenght I'm shooting at too, so it's a bit of a juggling act to try and get it right :)

All depends on the weather.I try to avoid going higher than ISO200 as the grain is terrible with these 'point and shoot' cameras.I stick around 1/320 shutter speed for the helis most days.If it nice and sunny i can go lower and usually get a few sharp images.

I hope to purchase a proper DSLR some day  ;) ;)

Ahhh yea, fast shutter speeds arn't a good idea for props/blades. I had never considered that when admiring your helicopter pics. Up until now I've been happy enough to get the highest possible shutter speed but that doesn't always produce the best picture.

Casper, anytime my shutters around 1/500, the results seem to be decent enough so I must try aiming for something similar in the future.

As long as the shutter speed is higher than the focal length then sharpness *should* be maintainable with good panning - easier said than done.

I'd like to use a tripod some time along with one of those 'hands free' cords that connect to the camera,to attempt to capture the 'full disc' effect with a heli using a really slow shutter speed..Preferably a four bladed machine  ;) ;)
