ISS and Space Shuttle sightings!
« on: September 10, 2009, 02:16:34 PM »
Hi folks
You may already know of this, but the ISS and Space Shuttle are currently visible over over skies at the moment, and with the clear nights the view is great.
I was able to watch them both last night, with a minute separation between them both as the space shuttle has separated from the ISS, and is due to touch down in Florida, today Thurs, so  you may be able to still see them both tonight, weather permitting. I have included a link below for you to catch the times etc, when you click on it, put your mouse pointer over the tab: Realtime Data at the top of the page, then a red menu will appear, then you should click on Sighting Opportunities, find your country from the drop down menu, (UK or Ireland) and click on go to country, then click on the town nearest you. I apologise, if you already know this site. :-)

Your link is : http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/index.html

and for the space shuttle: http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/index.html

Enjoy!

Last night the sky was perfect, although it was a bit too cold to stand out for long, and I was glad really that the duration was only 1 minute!  3 mins viewing tonight if the sky is clear..........fingers x'd.

Have fun, and wear a coat...........lol

Anyone see anything?

Saw something around 8:57 going from SW to SE. If it was either of them it was probably the ISS seeing as its the bigger of the two.

Just watched one of the two pass by - there is quite a bit of cloud about, after having clear blue skies most of the day  ::)

Anyone else have a better view?

Hi all

Just managed to see the space shuttle, the ISS was on a lower level, and the cloud spoiled that one, so the one you saw was the space shuttle! It is due to land tonight in Florida, so you were very lucky seeing it!

The ISS will still be visible in the sky for another week, so check the website for times, as the nights, all being well are clear, there is a good chance of seeing it, the ISS will be back tonight at !0.3 but you will if lucky only see it for 1 min, it is approaching @ 10 deg above WSW and departing at 12 above WSW, with a max elevation of 12deg, if the sky clears enough you will see it, it is always on time!

I was lucky enought to see the space shuttle take off last year! I always wanted to see one, and finally got my wish!! It was truly amazing, a sight to behold!!
