I use Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 every now and then, and I'm planning on getting X-plane one of these days.

I've seen the screenshots from Flight Simulator X, due to be released near christmas, and they are amazing.  I'll try to post them if I can find them again.

May they rest in peace, those graceful masters of the sky...

Happiness is Tomcat-Shaped.

I love the smell of jet fuel in the morning.

I think I have Flight Sim 2000 knocking around. Think the reason I don't play it is that my computer just isn't up to spec :(

I can remember playing a flight sim called F-19 way back in the days of Windows 3.11 and it had to be run from DOS :) Basic vector graphics but I still had many hours of fun with it :)

There was one realised for the Amiga 1200 many years ago and I wish it was released for the PC - Tornado. This was a brilliant sim with just about every weapon then available for the Tornado modelled.

Anything I've read about this sim suggests that current PCs will have to be upgraded to even run it :(

I like flight Sims, preferably flight simulator X, however it takes a huge bite out of your hard drive, 15 gigs... anyway, the quality is brilliant. It is worth it!

Haven't played a flight sim in years. The last I played was FS2000 & Total Air War. Did watch a show about flight sim fans and the lengths they went to get as much realism into the sim. One guy even had a flight sim setup in a container at Dublin docks complete with a £20,000 parabolic mirror that the images were projected onto.

Yip, i wuld use them now and again.. i dont go over board with the effects however i would like the best performance, however the higher the performance is set, the lower the game play is... i would prefer to fly boeing type planes or the cessenas from time to time. i would usually go and download the actual weather from their website as well.

My perfect take off would consist of the following:

- set flaps to 5 (this is depending on runway length and weather)
- set autothrottle
- all lights, de-ice, pitot heat etc should be on
- your flight plan should have been loaded etc (incl. heading and altitude)
- Set the brakes to "RTO"
- get confirmation from control tower
- slowly increase speed to roughly 40 knots
- when this is reached increase speed to full power
- depending on runway length raise the nose of the plane to an angle of 10 degrees at 134 knots
- roughly on your ascend (1100) raise landing gear
- retract flaps to 1
- keep speed below 250 kias
