When you go to an airshow where do you stand? Do you try and get to the middle of the crowd line or do you go closer to the ends of the crowd line?

Do you go early and claim your spot or arrive late and try and find somewhere that isn't to crowded?

I get there as early as my family will allow. We try for about 15 minutes before the gates open, but usually get there just after they do. I always try to get a good view of show center right on the fence, and set up some folding chairs to stake our spot, and try to keep people from crowding us in. Seems to work good, at least for me.

I think it depends on the venue. I've gone to shows and sat in the centre of the crowd line and had an Ok view. Gone back the next year and stood at one end of the runway and had an even better view.

I guess it's just a case of trial and error for each venue.

Yes, I've found spots on the ends of the showline (or even off airport property near the end of the runway) that have been great. The only thing is that most of the action I want to get on videotape is concentrated at show center, so being close is important for when I'm taping. If I find a good spot off-site I usually spend one day near show center and one at the other spot.

If you have Real Player you can see the best spot I've found yet...

I was at a show in September, it was a beach front show and the best viewing spot was on the cliff tops at one side of the bay entrance - that's where I'll be standing next year.

Will look at them later, but in the meantime what sort of equipment do you use?

For video, I use the family camcorder (Canon ZR-70). It's not really made for that stuff but it gets the job done pretty well.
