Heathrow Airport 3rd-5th March (w/ Dave)

So just had a brilliant trip to Heathrow with our very own Dave. We arrived in on Thursday morning to the worst cloud cover you are ever likely to see! Didn't see the sun once the whole day. So on the first day our combined total of photos taken was the grand sum of zero! So we spent most of that day sitting in Terminal 5 at the cafe with lovely views out on to the threshold of 09L (which was in use for arrivals the entire trip).
 
The second day tho was FANTASTIC! We were out at the approach for 09L from about 7am and once the last of the morning cloud cleared we got some of the best light I have ever experienced! We were there until the sun was completely gone at about 6PM. Even got talking to a spotter from Portsmouth who had sneaked out of work at 3PM just to catch a few arrivals. And because I'm a bit trigger happy when it comes to the photos, I seem to have taken somewhere in the region of 2000 photos on that one day!
 
Highlights of the movements for me were a Qatar government Global Express, Privitair 757, Etihad A346, Blue 1 717, Egyptair 777 and maybe the Vueling A320. I have got through a few of the photos already so here is a taster of things to come.

Yes, a good wee trip, pitty the weather wasn't great for the entire trip. For the sunny day we had, I found it was a bit hazy, a lot of my shots came out lacking contrast and maybe on the softish side.... still workable with though.    It's about time this forum organised a day trip to Heathrow, especially over the summer! 
 
The highlights of the the trip for me were the Etihad A340-500, Privatair 757, and the TAM A330+777-300ER. It was also nice to fly home on G-MIDX, the newly painted Star Alliance A320.

Having been effectively computerless for the past month (besides having a slow netbook), I didn't get a chance to edit any of my LHR pics up until this week. The evening light was pretty good, which always provides some fun when editing the sunset photos. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Heathrow really is an immense airport for spotting, with all the arrivals using one RWY for arrivals and the other for departures. The the evening light is always superb when there's no clouds.

My job entails sitting in front of a computer all day I have my email open so I see every one instantly and just click on it Unfortunately the filtering in work doesn't allow for the viewing of flickr photos so I'll have to watch until I get home.
