Maybe they will just move it to the Portstewart Strand and have a broader flatter flight line?

If they do that then they'll REALLY need a Park-n-Ride scheme because parking in Portstewart will be an absolute disaster  :)

So judging by their new facebook image, the airshow is now on the Eaststrand facing the Skerries?

With a name like that I'd expect a similar line up as per the previous couple of years, and possibly more water based displays to fill the gaps.....

This is from the new facebook page...

"The Portrush Airshow is going to look very different when it lifts off in Portrush on 6th and 7th September.
For 12 years the free spectacle has been held at West Bay but the organiser, Coleraine Borough Council, has taken the decision to use the eastern side of the peninsula for the 2014 event. The change of location will coincide with other initiatives including a shorter and more exciting flying programme and an expanded evening entertainments programme on the ground.

The event will also be given a new name, Air Waves Portrush, to reflect the wide range of activities apart from the actual air displays including children’s entertainment, exhibitions, live music, fireworks and one-off spectacles. The corporate hospitality will be offered to a wider section of the business community and for the first time there will be an enthusiasts’ compound.

The new venue at East Strand will offer a world class backdrop of The Giant’s Causeway, Whiterocks Beach and Dunluce Castle for the air displays which organisers hope will include the Red Arrows. Thousands of photographs of the coastline will get shared on social media and the internet and help raise the global profile of the seaside town. Ground attractions will be spread along the eastern peninsula from East Strand to Lansdowne as well as encouraging spectators to visit the businesses in the town centre.

In another exciting development the Events Team at Coleraine Borough Council has announced a brand new partnership with members of the management team at the Waddington airshow, one of the largest in the UK, in order to create an exciting display programme and develop commercial opportunities for the show."

Some interesting things in there such as an enthusiasts compound (probably requiring an entrance fee), shorter display period, and the fact that they've got a new partnership with the organisers of the Waddington Airshow.

What if the enthusiasts escape from their compound?  Need a pack of hounds to track them down.

This is becoming expensive.

Sounds like potential work for the Portrush Lifeboat given the increased  likelihood of sailors running aground on the rocks coz there were watching the pretty planes  ;D

The one (and at present its only one) advantage I can see from using East Strand is that in the unlikely event that we get a sunny day the sun will be at our backs and not in our faces.

Have to hope they've thought through the logistics causes this could get very messy.

I wonder if the "Air Waves" title is possibly related to a sponsor ie Wrigley`s  :-\

In my opinion I think the show has been relocated to the East Strand,as possibly the CAA would no longer permit West Bay to be used, and the organisers had to move.

It will make a better display line, but I remain unconvinced by the show, unless the lineup is dramatically improved.

Ha ha Ed!  :D :D Like your comment - No this isn't the Falcon Holidays annual humiliation of a young woman at Crawfordsburn Rockery. (It isn't even connected to the airshow)
