Most likely the T2... I have seen a few suggest the Eurofighter Typhoon as a replacement though in the past.

9 Typhoons would certainly be a sound to hear! I just don't think they would suit the Reds though.

The T2 would seem the obvious choice but taking ten aircraft out of the fleet would leave how many for training? I thought there were only 28 T2s? Typhoons would be excellent!

The problems I see with the Typhoon as a replacement is due to the size difference. The Hawk is a small aircraft, allowing them to fly very tight, very close to each other. The Typhoons are a lot bigger and have a bigger wingspan which would make some formations a lot wider than the Hawks can do. I also doubt if they could get the Typhoons just as close to each other as the current T1s are able to.

Though the Hawks don't need replaced until 2020. Some have suggested the Tucano, but I don't see it as they have a replacement date of around 2020 too.

Interesting to see that photoshopped Typhoon in Reds colours- :)

I doubt if commiting Typhoons would happen, certainly not a 9-ship,but maybe a 4-or 5 ship for special occassions.

I think the Reds will plough on with the Hawk;after all promoting sales of the Hawk (in its various forms),and RAF careers are two of the main reasons the team exist.

Love the Photoshopped Typhoon!

Sadly the rumours I've heard are that it'll be the Tucano follow-on that forms their next mount; probably the Pilatus PC-21.

Though on the other hand the Brazilian team does amazing things with the PT6-powered Tucano...

Ha!  So true... and it'd mesh better with the RAF recruitment needs these days than nine chaps flying pointy jets.

Brilliant, I'd watch that after seeing a flock of mini-bots doing an indoor display on YouTube!

To keep yourself right I would make sure that it says somewhere on the page that it isn't the 'official' page :)

hot off the Down Council "official" site !

"Following on the success of last year's 5 star event Jeff Salter, Flight Director & Down District Council plan to go a step further this year and is currently negotiating for six different jet types involving three seperate jet formations. It promises to be a fabulous display."

hopefully we get summer weather like we had last year :)

Six Jet types could well be the Hunter/Canberra combo,Red Arrows,Typhoon,F-86 Sabre plus maybe Vampire or Gnat(s) ???

Sounds very promising already.

Looking very promising at this early stage.
Red arrows and Typhoon are confirmed so that leaves 4 more jets.
Mid air squadron (hopefully) after that who knows , would be nice to see the gnat, s in the reds anniversary year .
How about the Dutch or Belgian F-16 :D :D

The RAF Tucano display has always been a bit of a let down,so hopefully they will revamp it.
They need to keep it in closer and lower so people can actually see the aircraft.
