Long term forecasts give it sunny, with little cloud. But won't get my hopes up until nearer the time.

So, guessing game. Which display will come down on the Friday for a practice run?

Not too sure. The Vulcan being parked up was part of Aldergroves 50th anniversary celebrations last year. It's booked also for the next day in Blackpool so it may well just return to England after the display.

I am thinking (and hoping) it is the Mig 15 with the F86 Sabre. I think they will fly together a few times this summer. And the F86 is not listing anything for the 9th Aug.

With the good weather yesterday I decided to have a walk up to the quarry over looking Newcastle, to see if what the view would be like.

There is a bad tree line looking down on Newcastle. The quarry has what I could say two tiers, a low and a slightly higher tier.

I have two compatible pictures, the first is the lower the second from the top. So that is my curiosity cured, pity.

Not been up in a long time, but the TV Mast might have a better view if you go to it, then cut through the trees to the edge.

Are the grounds of the hotel accessible to the public on the day (or anywhere nearby).I was at the harbour last year but there were some good shots taken from the hotel side - I wouldn't mind heading over that end this year.

The Slieve Donard hotel? Yes, they are. We were there last year and had a fantastic view with many jets very close to us. The T6 Texans entrance to open the show was fantastic, came in very low on its side around the hotel going right in front of us.

Red Arrows were right over head many times.

Irish Historical Flight confirmed for Newcastle

The B/E Aerospace Festival of Flight Team, are pleased to announce the booking of a new team for Newcastle on August 9th, The Irish Historic Flight are an unusual combination of vintage aircraft.

The Aer Lingus Charitable Foundation owned DH84 Dragon, “The Iolar” will be accompanied by two DH Chipmunk trainers in Irish Air Corps colours.

This formation is newly formed this year to celebrate 50 years of Irish Cadet flying. It is appropriate therefore that they should appear on the same programme as the Red Arrows on their 50th year.

Unusually the DH Dragon is the second airframe to carry this registration (EI-ABI). The original aircraft was shot down by the Luftwaffe in 1941 over the English Channel between the Scilly Isles and Lands End, after Aer Lingus had sold it to English Company

that puts it up to 11 different types of aircraft (12 if you count whatever the Falcons will jump from) with another Jet(s?) display to be announced.

So at least 7 Jet types.

Doesn't sound like we will see the F86 Sabre at Newcastle or indeed anywhere in the UK any time soon.

"Duxford based Golden Apple Operations Ltd has today suspended flying of their North American F-86A Sabre (48-178). Subject to completion of contract the aircraft will be returning to the United States in the very near future. We will be supporting the new owners and we wish them the very best of luck."

That is a real shame-I didn`t realise the aircraft was for sale-I suppose the US is where the money is to operate these types of classic aircraft.

That's sad, enjoyed both displays it did in Newcastle last year (It did a practice run on the day before) Was one of the main reasons I wanted to go to Bray this summer too! Was hoping it was the new jet DDC were teasing a few weeks back.
