I sent a 'tweet' (I hate twitter) to both Belfast Int and Newtownards asking if any are stopping over during the FoF.

Six Jet types could well be the Hunter/Canberra combo,Red Arrows,Typhoon,F-86 Sabre plus maybe Vampire or Gnat(s) ???

Sounds very promising already.

Reading through the thread again, this struck me as scarily accurate with the exception of the F86 lol :O

The Midair Squadron’s Canberra and Two Hunters will use Belfast International.

They will also be doing what the Vulcan did last year.

Quote
Last year the visit of the Vulcan aircraft to Belfast International Airport caused much interest. Some visitors were able to apply for access on the Sunday morning to view the aircraft before it departed to Blackpool.

The good news is that a similar viewing opportunity will occur this year. The Midair Squadron’s Canberra and two Hunters will be open to the public for viewing on Sunday morning 10 August.

Due to DOT security considerations the number of people will be limited to those who are successful in applying through the Belfast International Airport’s web site.

Keep an eye on Belfast International Airport’s Facebook site for details on when to apply.

Gah!  Facebook.... hopefully they won't rely on that for the applications.

If it is like last year, it will be through the Belfast international Airport website and they will just advertise the link on their social media accounts.

Either way, I am sure the link will be posted here like it was last year as soon as it goes live ;)

As far as I am aware the Canberra viewing has not yet been agreed between BFS and Midair.

Have the Midair Squadron actually flown a proper 3 ship display at airshows yet this year? I've only saw 1 Hunter with the Canberra so far... Could Newcastle be their first full 3 dhip display outside of practice/public display authority flight

Does anyone know if you can park a Motorhome in the carpark beside the Percy French during the show?

Other half wants to travel down the day before the show and sleep over + have a base for the show ie toilet, eating, cup of tea....

There was a lot of moaning and complaints in the local press last year about motor homes in that car park and as far as I remember DDC promised to look at that subject but dont know if theyve issued any directives on it yet.The big caravan site just outside town on the main B/fast to N/castle road now has a purpose built motor home/touring caravan site with shower block , electricity points etc BUT its commercial so being Newcastle they probably charge an ourageous fortune even for an overnight stop !!

Called the tourist office and there is a few sites that will accept campers.

Shimna College and Donard overflow. No overnight staying though so will have to find a spot to layup overnight before heading there early on the Saturday morning.

On Down Festivals FB page:

Quote
"FIRST ARRIVAL"

This Sunday afternoon, 27 July, the first arrival for the B/E Aerospace Festival of Flight is due to land at Belfast International Airport. The Norwegian T55 Vampire is planning to fly in from Newcastle (England) to wait for its sister ship due from Dublin on 7 August.

We expect the T55 to arrive at about 1730 BST (subject to weather and operational delays). It is hoped that both the aircraft will fly together for a short familiarisation sortie on August 7 before appearing at the B/E Aerospace Festival of flight on Saturday 9 August.

It's a great line up and I will defo be there weather permitting! This is the definitive NI airshow these days in my opinion.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen was a return of the F-86. I just loved last year's 'fly by the balls' display, blasting through the Mournes and along the sea front. Might as well have been in Korea!

Sunderland Air Show display is between 12:00 and 17:00 today so the Vampire could be heading over to us anytime then.

Unfortunately the Sunderland show organizers don't have a display timetable online, one has to buy a 'souvenir brochure' for that  ::)

Thanks for that - they seem to have left the Vampire off the running order though - no mention of when it will be displaying  ???

I was thinking it might be at that show, then head over to Aldergrove afterwards, but perhaps it`s not attending Sunderland.

After checking,it is down to display at Sunderland. No display time given.
