Aircraft crashed at night into mountain side. Surviving crew members moved down the mountain the morning to raise the alarm. Weather conditions hampered rescue. Local Liam Briody wrote a book about the crash and many memorial events have been held over the years. A memorial plaque is present at the site. The last known survivor J Gilchrist died 64 years later in 2008 on the very same night. D. Tucker cousin of M V Wareing has created a commemorative website.
