UAS meeting - nice line-up
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:31:20 PM »
Just found this on the Ulster Aviation Societys website

Quote
Tuesday Nov. 25th - 7.30pm. sharp. By special permission of the Senior Royal Air Force Officer for Northern Ireland (SRAFONI), this meeting will take place in the Officers Mess at RAF Aldergrove and will take the form of a visit by a number of Tucanos of 72(R) Squadron and, following an opportunity to inspect the Tucanos at close quarters, an audio-visual presentation by one or more of the visiting pilots.

Only to be attended by the usual suspects then  >:( Any former UAS members will know what I mean ;D

I am surprised the UAS actually got to post this up BEFORE the event took place ;)

I was a member but didn't renew. I did offer them a section of this forum for their use and the guy that I contacted was well up for it but was shot down by the chairman.

I was a member for four years but like so many I have spoken to,I became fed up with the way the society is run-there is an inner sanctum that don`t share info with other members.
Parts of the society seem to enjoy getting bogged down in red-tape and keep re-electing themselves to the commitee.

It`s really a shame, because the society could be so good, but no new blood gets a chance.
That`s partly the reason the society is in limbo because they didn`t fight the landlords discision when they were told to leave Langford Lodge.
The collection is currently at the Maze, but is unable to open to visitors.

Well I was only a member for 1 year and can't comment on the organisation as I didn't attend any meetings or gatherings. I did point out, however that they should have an updated website and possibly a forum where members could get together between the monthly meetings. But as I pointed I offered a section of this site to them. The guy that runs the website was in favour of it and asked me to set up a few sections for him. Everything looked like a go then he got back to me to say that the chairman thought we were jumping the gun and this would have to be discussed by the committee.
That was around 2 years ago and there doesn't seem to be any movement on it.
As for the Societys collection, it may be available for private viewing. I sent an email requesting info on the collection and got one back with a number to phone.

I think the lack of comback from the chairman after two years tells you all you need to know about the UAS commitee. :-\
I keep in touch with some of the UAS members and the opening of the collection is subject to a decision on the Maze regeneration project getting the go ahead.
If you are interested in viewing the collection I can arrange that.

That's definitely something I'd be very interested in. I'll maybe take you up on that offer in the new year :)

A small trip involving dalesplanes members would be cool. Or some sort of meeting. THE UAS is shooting itself in the foot. They should get the collection open to the public sooner rather than later. They also need to keep their website more up to date.

I managed to view the collection back when I was smaller and I was fancinated by the Shorts 330, although disappointed it had had it's wings chopped off.

The UAS cannot open the collection to the general public because of insurance issues-the move to the Maze was meant to be a temporary one until a home could be found.
If the Maze re-development does go ahead the UAS will be allowed to stay-in fact the collection is likely to increase-until then they are stuck in a state of limbo.
No excuses for the UAS website however-the UAS seem very slow to change with the times :(
I can bring a small group of 3 or 4 people at most-would have to be on a Saturday morning-I will try to sort something for January or Feb (sometimes the collection is totally closed over the winter due to the cold weather.
