Most likely be just a couple of passes, bay is very tight venue-unlikely that it would do a full display but who knows?

We will just have to wait and see-hope there isnt too many "No Shows".

BBMF are usually the first to pull a display if the weather is not up to scratch-This is completely understandable as the aircraft are very rare and need to be treated very carefully.
I got a book a few years back about the BBMF and was surprised how few hours the aircraft actually are permitted to fly.

As for the weather, I hope to see more of this:
God what would you give for skies like that.

Has anyone got any confirmation of flypast or display by A380 ???

I thought it said on the website that it was doing a display?

If it is a display it won't be a long one as they're supposed to be in Belfast 20 mins later. Having said that they could probably stay for 15 mins and still be in Belfast with time to spare.

The site says "flying display" id say be it going around in circles a few times then head off. Hope its nt just one single fly by, not terrible lot of photo opportunity there.

I think it will be a short display with a couple of passes including a turn or two in front of the crowd. It is due to do a flypast at Belfast City only 20 minutes after arrival at Portrush so it can only be a short display as it will take 10 to 15 minutes for it to fly down to Belfast

As long as it's not a repeat of the Nimrod 'display' last year. Got caught out by that one and didn't get a single photo of it.  >:(

Just to repeat  - Airbus has given Portrush the flying display, Belfast will just be a fly-past.
BTW - Nimrod in 2008 was always billed as a fly past, not a display.

Either way.....its a once in lifetime opportunity for people to see such a plane.....i know it probably is for me so it making an appearance at the show is fab and i think that if Airbus contacted someone asking if they wanted one of their planes to be displayed at an airshow it would be more than a flypast.

As long as i get long enough to get my camera ready.......

Agree  :drinks:

I've seen the Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas A380's at Heathrow but all head-on or side-on shots. Would be good to get one in the Airbus livery banking round the bay.

Here is their information:- http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/rafcms/mediafiles/F0ED6EA8_1143_EC82_2E4534A1036AA506.xls

Can someone clarify a query regarding the info on the spreadsheet.

It seems to indicate two Typhoons (DAK?? HS??) doing a display on both days.

Am I reading it wrong or was this the original plan but has since changed?

Apologies if this has already been sorted.

DAK is the Dakota and HS is the Hurricane/Spitfire. I believe there will be a two Typhoon flypast and then a single display on Saturday and a single display on Sunday.

DOH!

The listings refer to the BBMF.

I'll go sit in the corner  :-[

Hi all,

Just joined this group and think its excellent, didn't know this was here till I searched for air show information! I have always had genuine interest in aviation but not to the knowledge of alot of people in here.

Living in Portstewart it really is so great to have the FREE air show on our doorstep each year, but unfortunaltley I think alot of people take it for granted.

Each year it gets better with the only thing letting it down being the weather usually.

I cant wait to see it and will be camped out waiting for it to start early with the pinacles being ??? well everything really when you look at the schedule its all good.

Got some reasonable photos from 2007 and 2008, can I post them here, and it which gallery?

Cheers and if you the travellers need some information on parking etc let me know and I'll try an post a little guide of where.

If anyone wants to share a spot let me know and we can try and get a good vantage point and some more cool photos.

Thanks
Mike

:Welcome: Hi Mike and welcome to the forum, and many thanks for the offer of advice. As for posting photos please feel free to do so. You can create personal galleries so you could create two for both 2007 and 2008. If you need any help just let me know.

Nope, it will be the City Airport  :). As for the weather, it's looking quite cloudy atm, with a good chance of rain  :(.

Hey All

Looks like we're cancelling flying up :( Bellarena is too short for us and Derry closes at 5! Feckers. But we're going to drive up early that morning so still all good!
Questions where is good to watch the show? I know there are previous posts on it, but we're not that interested in taking pictures so Im asking from audience point which would be the best spot to see everything.
Thanks!

I still say either of the cliff tops as all of the display aircraft will pass close to them, whereas the likes of the Typhoon and possibly the BBMF will not come in to the bay itself.

Well I park in the East Strand car park and then it's a 20 minute walk to the cliffs at Ramore Head. There are car parks closer but I never want to run the risk of not getting somewhere to park. East Strand also allows for a quick getaway if you leave 10 or 15 mins before the end of the show.

I have a small waterproof wind shelter/tent, and it's just enough for 2 or 3 people to sit inside on foldable chairs. Frankly I'm not holding my breath for the weather this weekend and I am expecting the worst. If it's anything better than dark grey cloud and rain, it will be a bonus to me. I am also expecting several cancellations due to the weather. All our luck was used up last year unfortunately.
