Shame about the conditions - but the Moon rises later tomorrow, so should be in a better position by the morning.  We will try again!

Caught a long-shot just before the Moon set this morning.  ZK-OKS as ANZ2 on the eastbound leg of the round-the-World route.

Good Shot Merlin,I have been taking a few moon pics my self the past few days.

Also visable at the moment in a southerly direction is Jupiter with four of it`s major moons lined up from our viewpoint-I believe this is quite rare?

Oh!  There are new photos here :)

Looks like that tripod is working-out well for you Merlin, good shot.

AT: that's a very pretty alignment of the Galilean moons, I'm impressed you could catch that with a standard lens.  Usually at least of the moons is front of or behind the planet.  The rarest alignment is when the four of them hide behind Jupiter!  I've only know that to happen once in decades.

I was very surprised myself that they were visable-my intention was to attempt a pic of Jupiter, but I had seen on a recent TV programme that the moons were aligned in this way.

I took a few more the previous evening, but I have not looked at them yet-must check.

Thanks for your input. :)

Cheers Smudge.

Actually I'd received a gimbal head for the tripod just that day and wanted to try it out.

So far so good  :)

Cool! Which gimbal did you choose?

The Wimberly was a bit pricey for me so I went for the Lensmaster.  Good piece of kit and made in the chap's garage!
