Jetphotos - rejected image
« on: April 10, 2009, 10:29:46 AM »
I uploaded this image to jetphotos.net and it was rejected for the following reasons:

Quote
The main subject of these photo(s) is not correctly centered in the image.
Maybe slightly but it is showing the runway

Quote
The aircraft in these photo(s) is too far in the distance, resulting in
too much 'empty space' in the image.
Are they looking for a close up of the cockpit? How does this have too much 'empty' space?

I'd have cropped a bit tighter myself

As for Anet

Edited due to Caspers typo  ;)

Ah was rejected by j-p.net as well for the same reasons.

Reason(s) For Rejection:
- Bad Composition (bad framing / aircraft not centered)
- Subject too far / too much dead space

Well having seen other rejected pics by various photographers (more experienced and using top end kit),i really do think that consistency goes out the window at times - and also one screener may find acceptable which another rejects.
I've had three recent efforts of my own rejected recently by Anet for being 'soft' :-X :-X :-X

First off, its a great shot, panning shots are a pain to get right but you've got a great result.

The runway isn't really adding anything to the photo so theres no real point in retaining it in the photo unfortunately, hence the composition rejection. However the 'subject too far' rejection is a tricky one. Personally I have seen many photos added with the same dead space around the aircraft, myself included managed to get a shot accepted with the same dead space so it's always worth appealing such rejections when the reject reason is that alone.

However Vortex's edit is the sort of shot that would easily make it on.

In general, I agree, consistency does tend to go out the window on these websites however an appeal or two usually sorts that out :)

Ah I give up. Recentred it and still gets rejected for

- Bad Composition (bad framing / aircraft not centered)
- Categories wrong or missing

http://www.jetphotos.net/viewreject_b.php?id=2444729

As for Categories wrong or missing, I put it into 'Small Prop' - there's nothing else it could have gone into.

A bit of a bummer  :( I wouldn't bother adding small props as a category as it usually only applies to Cessna's and small private aircraft. This aircraft wouldn't need any categories. The aircraft itself is perhaps a tad low in the frame. As a rough guide the aircraft windows should roughly be centre of the frame. Worth another try I think as it's a good photo. :)

I honestly though it was one of my better ones :) As for categories, I think Jetphotos is a bit scarce on them. I've a few Dash-8s I'd like to upload but it doesn't seem to fit into any of their categories - It isn't a small prop and it certainly isn't a business jet  ??? ??? ???

Thats true, they do seem to group a good few categories together such as sunrise/sunset shots just lumped together with night shots although incase you didn't realise, adding categories to uploaded shots isn't neccessary for the majority of shots :)

A good majority of my shots have no category on them. I only have a few night shots (sunrise and sunset really) and special liveries and one small prop. Don't give up on this shot and try the Q400's too :)

The new edit looks good Casper, the aircraft positioning in the frame is much better. It'll be on the database within a week  ;D

Thanks, but what category do I put it in? Do I have to select one?

No category is required Casper :) And the same for the Dash 8 photos.

There lies my problem because the upload page says

Quote
Please check all that apply. Failure to do so may result in your photos being rejected.
and I've assumed that all uploads must have a category assigned to them.

Nice one getting the Q400 shot on to jetphotos. Just to clarify, you do not need to add categories to most photos uploaded, unless it is a special livery, etc.

As to the rejected photo, at first glance it looks level enough but I'm in uni without photoshop so I can't be sure. The large white tank on the lefthand side in the background looks level, whilst the tank on the right side seems to lean slightly to the right by a tiny bit.

To be honest I would appeal the rejection and mention that the photo appears level. You've nothing to lose by appealing and the chances are the appeal screener will accept it.

Thanks for that. Yes I did upload it without a category, so much simpler now :)

I have appealed it. Every way I look at it it's level, unless I've got a wonky spirit level.
