Whats your favourite warbird?

I love seeing Mustangs and Griffon engined Spitfires, not keen on the Merlin ones, also the return of the Sea Fury in the last couple of years has been great, and finally this year i got to see the SHF's A-26 Invader, what a display very reminesant of the late Mosquito displays.

I also love the Mustang. Must say though I'm also a big fan of the Battle Of Britain flight.

What's the rarest warbird you've ever seen? I think mine would have to be the B-17 that was in pieces at the Warbirds Museum in Kissimee in Florida. Always wondered if they had ever restored it to flying condition.

Found it - the B-17 Flying Fortress that was in pieces. Turns out it was called 'Liberty Bell' and details of it can be found here

This is a no-brainer

It has to be the De Havilland Mosquito. I think it has to be the most beautiful plane ever built.

The mossie was certainly a great display aircraft especially 'round the bend' whenever it appeared at Old Warden  8)  8)  8)

I think there is still one in America that is technically airworthy but hasn't flown for some time, great shame.  :roll:  :roll:

Kermit Weeks, got so many aircraft that are potentially airworthy but just sit and gather dust, i think he has got the Sunderland too, again i think that just sits and has not flown for sometime.

I was also reading that one of the main reasons that he hasn't got it airworthy is the cost of the insurance. Apparantly it runs into hundreds of thousands a year.

My favorite warbird would have to be the Merlin engined Spitfire (I love em!)

Hi Chip and welcome to the forum.

The Me-109 is a lovely machine, but my favourite German warbird would have to be the Ju-87. Just love the gull wing, siren etc. :)

No, I did see the Mossie at Duxford years ago actually flying formation with the P-38 that Hoof Proudfoot was killed in a few years later, The aircraft at the front is a Grumman Tigercat, absolutely fantastic sight and sound to witness Duxford's Flying Legends and their grand finally The BALBO formation!!!
