Thought I'd dump some of these here since I'm losing track of them.

Belfast: The Story of Short's Big Lifter
Molly O'Loughlin White
ISBN 0904597520
Midland Counties 1984

There's one copy on Amazon UK for £85 *cough*

Three copies in Belfast Central library but in the Heritage collection, so I'll have to go up in person.

One copy in Queens' library but again only consultation, not available for loan.

The Boys of Ballykelly

Quote
It was 1968 and engine fitter Gordon Blair was returning to the UK from a tour of duty in Penang and Singapore. His new posting was to RAF Ballykelly in Northern Ireland to work on Coastal Command Shackletons that were based there.

Not an aviation book, but today I was flicking through Ards in the Seventies in the "Eason" stand-up library and stumbled across a chapter about gliding at EGAD in the 1970s.

It was  four pages of the recollections of Geoffrey Bowman: his flying and the Ulster Gliding Club's awkward and short-lived co-habitation of the airfield with the UFC.

Three monochrome aircraft photos, two of Let Blanik G-ATRA and one of Tiger Moth G-AYIT.

Lots of people's names called-out in the text but few of them discussed in detail: Grenville Hill; Gordon Mackie; Wally, Monica and Jane Galloway; Eric Vint; Bob Rodwell; Eric & Caralyn Page; Jim Weston; Jim Wallace; Laurence McKelvie.

I'll make a return visit to review the rest of the book... looks like it might be in my stocking this Christmas.

Paperback: 336 pages
Publisher: Ballyhay Books (2 Oct. 2015)
ISBN-10: 1910657034
Price: £14.99

I would recommend these books if you don't have them. Great read. I got them for NI_Gaz last Christmas. They cover a good range of Aviation in Northern Ireland. Lots of pictures come from a regular name on here too!

Aircraft and Aerospace Manufacturing in Northern Ireland
Civil Aviation in Northern Ireland
Military Aviation in Northern Ireland

Just noticed this on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1841831115?redirect=true&ref_=s9_im_co_g14_i3

That sounds as if it might deem further investigation-I always enjoy hearing aircrews expierences and the situations they found themselves in.

I do too. There are a few other such books on Amazon at reasonable prices now.

The story of an Airline Pilots flying career, with a rather poignant ending.

He's an old mate, and used to fly into BFS quite a bit.

Whilst it will never win a Pulitzer Prize, it's still a good read.

I hadn't noticed this book being published, late 2015, by the chairman of the Stirling Aircraft Project:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Short-Stirling-First-Heavy-Bombers/dp/1781554730

416 pages!  Seems to have a lot of detail about the actual process construction, such as Mackies being contracted for the undercarriage.

I have Mr Bowyer's effort 'The Stirling Story' but it dwelt mostly on the operational side of things and was unsatisfying on the technical side.

Whilst on the subject:
