Afternoon folks,
After a great days spotting at Heathrow with my son yesterday I hope I can share a few tips for people who may want to do this in future.
We flew into T5 and got the tube to Hattons Cross as we wanted to experience the famous Myrtle Ave, they wanted £19:80 return for this trip. We only paid one way which was £4:80 each. Please don't take the tube, take bus 423 which you can get outside T5 and get off at Hattons Cross. This is part of Heathrow travel free zone.Turn right onto Hattons Rd and walk past a BP filling station and you will find Myrtle Ave on your left.
Just before the runways changed we went to the Thistle Hotel to watch them take off. Again just jump onto bus 423 and listen for the thistle hotel stop. This takes about 20Min's and buses run 3 times an hour. The Thistle Hotel welcome you and let you into their bar and terrace area, we stayed approximately 4hrs.
When the runways change from landing 27L to landing 27R there's not a lot happens at the thistle hotel end but you still get good shots of the planes taking off from 27L and see the ones taxiing to their stands after landing.
Totally recommend Heathrow for spotting and if anyone knows any other tips let me know because on doubt we'll be back.
I'll try to upload some pics.
Thanks,
Trevor
