We were at the Belfast Maritime Festival today but they did a really poor job of advertising which ships were in, and where.  The maps being issued don't have any information on where ships might be moored.  I had no idea that HMS Monmouth was in, for example.

ILV Granuaile is moored and open for public visits at Donegall Quay, along with four sailing ships.  There may be others but we didn't find them!

Same here. Was surprised to get access to the bridge, they haven't allowed that on earlier visits.

Most surprising thing to learn from speaking to the crew was that the ships are not automatically assigned a helicopter. They only get one, inc. support personnel and parts, when the ship is deploying overseas, i.e. the Gulf or South Atlantic, etc.  While in home waters the helicopters are based ashore, Culdrose probably, and sortie out when needed.

In a similar manner, I was listening to a podcast lately and they were explaining that when a US carrier returns home, the entire CVW leaves the ship and heads to an NAS and returns when the carrier deploys.

The guys I was chatting to were sating the Type 45's are ina  bad way and the Frigates are currently the workhorse of the RN.
