Anglesey 30 , Most likely a Hawk out of Valley just popped into EGAA for a practice approach.

There was another as well apparently ( Anglesey 28 )

Also was a C130 in today for a practice approach.

Also,just heard was Army Air 580, but I am wondering what sort of aircraft this was as It did not 'sound' like an Islander.......

Yes Mark, heard and saw "Ascot 528" C-130 C4 (ZH870) make a couple of missed approaches around lunchtime, before hoofing it back to Lyneham.

Just heard this myself - sounded like the pilot had an oxygen mask on.

Possibly he was, but he sounded like he had an accent of some sort, couldn't quite place it!
He climbed quite fast though, but there was nothing received on the SBS so I couldn't ID him.

I have a Defender at FL150 (ZG996) and i heard 'AAC580' saying he would be airborne for the next four hours.

If its Army Air it will be either the Islander,Defender or Gazelle.

The Gazelle`s are easy to ID as you can hear the rotors.

The Islander/Defender have been operating at high alttitude recently-probably updating Nav charts and some map work.

Gazelles callsigns are nearly always in the range 'AAC55*' to 'AAC57*'

Islanders and Defenders are nearly always 'AAC58*' to 'AAC59*'

I have heard 'AAC010' used occasionally by the fixed wing birds aswell.

I'm sure the recent 'goings on' around the border have something to do with the increased activity aswell.

Army Air 587 on with EGAA right now, and you are right, he is masked....
