Don't mention the Botha
« on: April 03, 2017, 05:29:31 PM »
Came across a reference in a book today regarding 502 Squadron's brief use of the notorious Blackburn Botha, something that isn't mentioned in the official histories.

Checking the Putnam volume for Blackburn  reveals:

Quote
The re-equipment of No. 502 (County of Ulster) Squadron, begin in August 1940 with the delivery of L6228, L6229 and L6231, was likewise cancelled and the aircraft handed over to No.1 OTU, Silloth.

Other sources indicate they were on charge with 502 until October 1940, at which time they were re-equipped with Whitleys with knackered, overhauled and bored-out Merlin engines.  Not sure if that was better than the Botha...

I haven't found any photos online or in print of any of the three 502 Sqn Bothas.
