Possible VC-10 into BFS this evening
« on: January 05, 2010, 06:33:08 PM »
What sounded like a VC-10 landed at BFS at approx 1805 approx-ATC told the aircraft to park on 25A-they also requested his REG which makes me think it was a military aircraft.
Unfortunatly with my rather basic airband radio,I was unable to hear it`s response

I only noticed it arriving because it sounded different-slight whistle of the aircraft, and I only got a brief glimpse as it passed behind our shed.

Will know later when it goes out, cause the windows will shake :D

Hi, can confirm that it was a VC 10, as it is still parked up at stand 25 at the International airport. It is parked there as there is no longer an RAF visiting aircraft servicing facility since the handover of Aldergrove to the Joint Helicopter Command

Wee update with regards to the VC10 at Aldergrove, apparently the aircraft was stuck here for a few days because they were refused fuel. !!!

No I don`t think it was-What I heard was it diverted into BFS due to the extreme cold and the aircraft was having problems with it`s on board anti-icing equipment.

I heard the crew talking to ATC after they had landed and they said ice was building up on the wings leading edge.

It seems a bit of a coincident that they suspended the passenger carrying around the same time.....  i suspect that the problems that the one that landed at BFS probably affected more than one aircraft.....  But then again they are 43  years old ... would you fly with a airline that operated aircraft that old??   i know i wouldn't....

I understand your concerns but the aircraft diverting into BFS was operating as a tanker and wasn`t carrying passengers-they have a duel role and can carry passengers (troops) and carry out tanker duties.
The suspension of (passenger)troop carrying is only a temporary one,and is nothing to do with the airworthyness of the aircraft.

It wouldn`t bother me in the slightest to fly in a VC-10,I have been lucky enough to fly in them in the past.

Would you not fly in a Spitfire then?  ;)
