Intrepid Museum

Not sure if anyone has been to the Intrepid Air Museum in New York, but I can highly recommend it. Went last summer to see the SR-71 they have. A dream of mine has been to see that bird for real. The museum is on a Vietnam era aircraft carrier. They also have Concorde to walk about, F-14, A4 Skyhawk, Huey Cobra, and various other interesting aircraft. Also a Shuttle Orbiter too which was larger than I ever imagined it to be.

If anyone is interested in seeing photos, I got a bunch. Just not sure how to show them on here.

Actually it is not an SR-71,it`s a Lockheed A-12 Oxcart, a very common mistake.

The main difference`s being the SR-71 is longer and has a more prominent nose and body chines.The SR-71 had a two-seat cockpit, and carried additional optical and radar imagery systems.

I was there in 2002,it`s a great place to visit.

Interesting info about the A-12. Yeah, I totally forgot that the SR was always a two seater! Still from the same heritage though so impressive all the same!

Yep, it’s a great place to visit!

If you ever get over to Duxford, there is a SR-71 there.

The Intrepid is a great visit-i've been lucky to be there twice! Next to the Museum of Flight in Seattle (got to see an M-21) it's the best aviation museum I have visited.
