Punchestown 100years of Aviation Airshow
« on: January 26, 2010, 12:53:52 AM »
Just found this http://www.airshow.ie/content.aspx?id=203

Dates 6th-7th June at Punchestown-could well be worth a look if the line up lives up to expectations.

I was aware of this event being planned but the website must be a new addition.... i hope it is better planned than the last one they tried to organise ...Do you remember this..June 2006....''The MACH 1 Airshow due to take place in Punchestown Racecourse next Sunday the 4th and Monday the 5th of Junehas been cancelled due to a dispute between Airshow Organisers and Kildare County Council. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the onlystatutory  body that can licence an Airshow, however Kildare CountyCouncil (KCC) is insisting on another licence for spectators watchingthe aerobatic displays. The event licence from the County council mustbe applied for 17 weeks in advance of an event and at this stage it istoo late to process the application. The Airshow organisers met withKildare County Council at 2pm on Wednesday June 31st in a last attemptto save the Airshow but unfortunately a compromise could not bereached.  All purchased tickets will be refunded through the CentralTicket Bureau.  :-[

I do remember that one - in fact one of the organisers was a member here. Another downside to that one was the fact that it wasn't advertised as a spectator event, but a trade event. Hopefully this one will be more sucessful.

Static Aircraft Display

This section of the Airshow Village will offer a display of helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from around the world, including a static display of military helicopters.
Looking at the aerial view of the area there's no runway so how are they going to get the fixed-wing aircraft in?

It seems to be a cursed venue-loads of complaints regarding an airshow there, despite the noise from helicopters at race meetings, and of course the big 3 Day Oxygene Music Festival that is held there. ::)

Looks like Punchestown wont be having the Reds. They've delayed the start of their season to the 14th June.

Maybe its just my simple view on life but wouldn't it have been smarter to get the consent of the breeders AND a licence BEFORE they started organising the show. This seems to scream mismanagement, especially as this isn't the first time its happened.

Didn't they learn anything from the previous attempt?

The Airshow 100 website hasn't been updated.

Seems extremely harsh to cancel the show just because one act has withdrawn, not to mention a kick in the teeth for the other acts that had put in the time and effort to make an appearance.

I'm sure we'll subsequently learn that there were 'other factors' involved (horse owners, or the licence issue).

I think you are correct Keegster-madness to cancel because one act (admittedly high profile) had to cancel.

The Red Arrows made the announcement that they were unable to display at the show on April 15th;why wait so long to cancel the show?

Almost certainly license issues, and the jodhpurs brigade flexing their muscles! :(

Seems like a really lame excuse for cancelling. Hopefully an official statement will shed more light on it

Now that the cancellation is being talked about in the public domain you'd think the organisors would at the very least publish a statement on their website either confirming or denying the cancellation.

I've emailed the organisers asking them to confirm or deny the report.

But don't hold your breath waiting. Why reply when you can delete  :)

Email I got back from the organisers said exactly the same thing.

What a total cop-out  >:(

Feel sorry for those who were planning to go the show. Given how few shows are left now, every single one should be fully supported. Portrush is the obvious example of the level of support for this type of event and their importance to the local economy regardless of who performs.

There were three other display teams scheduled to take part. What does this say about them?

Are the airshow 100 organisers implying that they, along with the other acts, are inferior and were only invited to make up the numbers?

Love how the promoter praised the organisers for their 'professionalism and commitment'. They were so committed that at the first sign of a cloud they jumped ship and abandoned the event.

I'm sure they got their fee upfront though.
