I have spoken to a number of business owners in Portrush & Coleraine whom have sponsored the show last year, the council have not even asked them if they would contribute this year

All of them said that they would happly sponsor and increase their contribution to save the show.

This decision was taken behind closed doors without any consultation with the local Chamber of commerce or these previous sponsors.

I think that is what we had all suspected-I think there is more to the cancellation than we are being told by the council.

The fact that the chamber of commerce are shocked and angry that they werent consulted would seem to contridict the council saying sponsership from local business wasnt forthcoming.

I think it will soon become obvious that the council have scored a massive own goal.

Was talking to a mate of mine who is doing media studies at uni, He mentioned that he hasn't seen any DVD sales regarding the airshow except my attemppts. So if the airshow needed more money why don't they get a uni group to make a dvd for free as part of the course and then sell them for £10 say and see how it goes.
Not my idea just my freind was looking at it. Might be worth a look into.

Thanks String

Good idea, I will pass it on

I think that there was a dvd made last year, though I'm not sure what happened to it, there was certainly plenty of footage shot. needs some investigation

Thanks for jogging my memory, Planes TV was one of the crews that did film last years show.

Anybody else that has broadcast quality footage of any past Portrush shows that could be accessed?

Just had a listen to the show on Talkback , going by that Ashley Moore dosn`t seem too disapointed if the show isn`t on and i reckon the same as Geoff if it dosn`t happen this year i can`t see it happening in 2011.

I'd have to agree with that, if the airshow doesn't occur in 2010, then I doubt it'll take place again.  :(

Ashley Moore is in the minority, a substantial number of local business's sponsors are backing efforts to rescue the show for 2010, they would share your concerns that no show in 2010, no show ever again !

I thought it strange that the BBC managed to find the only local buisness person who didnt seem bothered that the show had been cancelled;you would almost think he was put forward by th CBC to strengthen their arguement for cancelling.

What sort of Council cancels an event that brings so many people into the area and provides a huge economic boost to local buisness at the end of the summer season.?

Just thought about this are you sure it was ashley moore that was interviewed not neville as ashley has nothing to do with moores anymore it is all nevilles his sister isn't involved either. Ashley make millions from property development and has never been involved in anything regarding moores so it is very strange indeed why the BBC would interview someone who is on the outside of moores.

Since support had already been available (according to various reports) can we assume their statement implies 'more' private sector support, presumably to allow a reduced contribution from CBC.

Hi On Radio Ulster this morning the Local Traders rep being interviewed indicated they are certainly prepared to put up some sponsorship and asked the Local Councillor being interviewd  for a figure that might be required. £150,000 was mentioned but he did qualify he was not an expert on the financing of the event. He indicated the funding would be needed to buy items to display and that CBC would not want to put on a second rate show.

the Councillor stated, and it has already been reported on here, that the MOD was the issue they were not able to supply items.

Hopefully the show can be saved and it will have the sort of aircraft participating that we all enjoy.

I hope that all the people who want an airshow in portrush will help fund it. i for one would hate to see such a great event dissappear from the callender. it is the only thing that get's me really excited and i love the event. And the REDs are an unbelievable their display is spectacular.

Again there seems to be confusion over what is happening with the airshow-it featured again on Talkback today-check BBC iPlayer approx 60mins into the programme.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007cpt4

It seems that the Local Chamber Of Commerce are going to up the money to fund the show.
They have been told they have until Friday to book the Red Arrows and the MOD are prepared to offer other aircraft contary to what other Council spokes persons have said.

It sounds to me as if there is some sort of political motive for canceling the show-I hope that is not the case;we wouldnt want the Portrush Airshow to become dogged with anti-war protestors the way Salthill`s Airshow has been.

The Coleraine Borough Chamber has underwritten the show to the amount required by the officers of the Council and the Reds are confirmed.

I not sure what 'political' reasons that Councillor Deans (DUP), whom was interviewed has.

Maybe we should all e-mail or text him and ask 07740585646 e-mail: timothy.deans@colerainebc.gov.uk

I also heard the aforementioned politican on the radio this morning, giving a somewhat irrational rationale for the cancellation! This councillor also quite clearly stated that there was a lack of MOD aircraft available - which is contrary what 'Tango Tango Fanta' told us earlier this month! Somebody's lieing, and I've a funny feeling it might be the politician!

It does seem like there are certain people who do not want this event to take place. I wonder why?
