BHD - A different angle
« on: February 14, 2010, 05:17:48 PM »
Has anyone tried shooting from the bridge over the Sydenham bypass?

Aside from the fact that you are completely exposed to the elements and its noisy as heck, it has its benefits  :)

I would only go round there if RWY04 is in use. But once there you get a great approach shot with Sampson/Goliath in the back ground! And if there is anything sitting on the GA apron you should get a good shot of it. But definitely wrap up warm!

Alongside the Sydenham railway halt and walked over the bridge. Didn't think you were allowed to park on the other side (old airport entrance).

Yes, the bridge is a fantastic place to take photos from, the best time is during the summer in the early morning, before the Sydenham bypass traffic picks up. Light is perfect then and movements are at their best, the Ryanair shot was taken quite early after sunrise.

There are usually a few cars parked beside the bridge at the old airport entrance, waiting to pick up relatives from the airport, but there always enough room to park your car there.

Do like the foot bridge, have they taken the old gantry away ? I like trying to get the cranes in with 04 inbounds never really had a go at 22 departures.

That used to be the only decent spot to go before Ikea opened-as mentioned it`s very exposed and also you need to watch yourself if some of the local cavemen see you with an expensive looking camera. :-X

There are a few lamposts that ruin taxi shots from that location-but apart from the constant wind blast its a good place.
