DUB over Easter
« on: March 09, 2010, 12:54:30 PM »
Folks,

I'm thinking of taking a day trip down to Dublin airport over the Easter break. Having the seen the quality/variety of pics from the guys who have been I figure I need to try this for myself. No specific day in mind but would be weather dependent.

Would anyone else be interested in going, maybe a group outing?

Dublin Airport is highly recommended, and if the weather is as sunny as rescently it would be worth a journey down.

Maybe sort something nearer the time to check weather etc...Casper if you need a lift I can help you out.

I know it still a bit away , but according to the latest forecasts the cold weather is making a return next week ... so hopefully if any of you make it down over easter the weather will be good for you 8) ....
From Met.ie
Quote
he rain, sleet and snow will clear slowly eastwards through MONDAY NIGHT   and TUESDAY,  with clearer weather and scattered wintry showers   following on fresh northerly winds. THE REST OF NEXT WEEK will be very   cold with northerly winds persisting. There'll be widespread sharp   frosts at night, and day time temperatures of between 4 and 9 degrees,   highest along the south coast.  The days will be bright with sunny   spells and scattered wintry showers, these mainly in the north and west,   where some falls of sleet and snow are likely.

Don`t like the sound of that at all-I might not be able to make it down anyway because I discovered I only get two days off for Easter, but last year we got a week.

Will see what the weather is like nearer the time and judge it from there-I dont like the idea of freezing my bits off in a blizzard ;)

I also get a week off at Easter but I've already lost two days due to other commitments. At present Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and possibly Saturday are my options. If a decent day (weatherwise) can be found amongst that bunch then I'll definetly be going. Cold weather pics would be a nice change plus the car has a heater for when I'm not standing about  ;D

If the weathers good on any of these date's, I'd be tempted to head down myself. Cold days at Dublin often allow for the best photography results so I'll be there regardless of temperature. Also tempting to head down for sunrise and catch some arrivals or departures from the Northside of the airport, depending on runway use.

Thursday's not looking too bad? Although early days yet and given the recent weather, it's likely to change.

I am in Dublin next friday.

I will be stopping at the airport to take a few photographs.

This is my first time actually taking photographs down there.

Could someone give me a good place where to go and also when does the A330's take off?

I take it you ar going by car? Just before you approach the terminal area you will see a large spike type sculpture;turn LEFT at the traffic lights and then head down threw the next two sets of lights.

Then you can turn RIGHT on to the road which skirts the perimiter of the airfield;there are various place along this road you can get a good view from.

Aer lingus A330 normally go out between 10.30 and 11.30 ish,but I suggest you check the Dublin Airport website first to get a more accurate time.

Watch out for passing buses and lorries!

According to the latest forecast it wont be a day for taking pics unfortunately... :(
Quote
The early part of Thursday night will be mainly dry with clear   spells and light winds; slight to sharp ground frost will set in and may   lead to ice on some surfaces. However, as the night goes on, rain will   develop across the south and west of the country, preceded by sleet on   higher ground. On Good Friday morning, the rain will extend to remaining   areas

Sunday is not looking too bad at the moment

Easter Sunday will be dry and bright for the morning and afternoon in   many areas but wet and windy weather will develop in the west by   evening.

Anyone going down this week?

Haven't given up on the trip. However based on the latest weather 'predictions' I'm leaning towards Friday or Saturday.

Unfortunately my Dad has put the idea into my head of going down and staying overnight. Given the current hotel rates it is an extremely attractive idea.

Unfortuntely I'm unavailable for the week so I'll be missing out :(

If anyone does go, I'd recommend heading down to Dublin early, most of the American heavies are morning flights so if you head there early enough, you'll catch most of them departing.

Staying the night is an option, especially for some beautiful sunset shots, and with the cheap hotels, definately a good option if the weather is quarenteed to be good.

Also should you happen to find your self on the perimeter fence of Dublin, you might have good company in the form of the two Irish clowns, Don and Conor  ;D , true legends!

Right, taken the plunge and booked a room at the Holiday Inn in Dublin City Centre (Pearse St.).

Will be heading down on Friday afternoon and stop off at the airport on the way for some pics.

Then (hangover permitting) I'll be back out at the airport on Saturday morning to see the transatlantic flights head out.

If anyone is about on Friday or Saturday I'll be one wearing the RAF baseball hat  ;D

I would suggest that Saturday would be a better day to visit as there should be a bigger chance of catching Biz jets and don't forget the Air France Cargo 747  ;D ... Sunday has been fairly quiet recently with only the usual regulars ....
If anyone is about on Friday or Saturday I'll be one wearing the RAF baseball hat  ;D

I'll probably be around on Sat....Weather permitting  8)      :LOL

Was there, was wearing my RAF hat, but wasn't approached by any other NIAE members.

Due to the runway assignments I ended up at the threshold of 10 were there was no shortage of traffic. Managed to bag two of the Aer Lingus Regional ATR 72's but the highlight of my visit was this beauty who flew in around 15:40

All in all a good day. A good result in the rugby accompanied by several pints at the hotel bar, now back in my hotel room to watch the Masters, what could be better  ;D

On a bit of a buzz, partially due to the beer but also due to the fact that the photos I took today turned out so well, after painstakingly cleaning the mirrors I finally got rid of the crap that has been plaguing my pics for months.

Will be back out tomorrow morning but depending on the runway in use I don't know where I'll end up.

Do those of you planning to head over tomorrow want to arrange in advance somewhere to meet?

I was along the centre of runway 28 on the old airport road.

I think we are staying in the same hotel as I was at the game last night.

Bewleys :)

Nice picture I seen it taxing to its gate.
