Work experience in the aviation industry
« on: January 13, 2007, 07:36:13 PM »
Just following on from another thread. Have you ever had any work experience in the aviation industry?
I once had three days with the British Midlands ground crew at Aldergrove airport. It was a hell of an experience seeing how they turned around 737s and DC-9s. Also ate alot of the planes food :) There was just two on the crew - a mechanic and an electrician.

Im going to aldergrove ATC for my work experience however because of security and insurance reasons im only allowed one day  :'( Ah well, ill make the most of that day. Im not sure if ill be allowed a camera that day but from another point ill bring my camera with me on my trial flying lesson and post any pic's that i get. Oh, i think it'll be alot of fun, however i probably will only be making cups of tea and brushing the floor but i think just being there and seeing everything will be cool. :D

I don't think you'll be making tea. You'll probably get a tour of the place and then maybe shadow someone as they do their job.

Due to the nature of teh job you won't be able to do much hands on work but you'll probably spend the day plugged in, listening to and watching the controllers.

I warn you, it can be addictive! I did my work experience about 5 years ago at Aldergrove ATC. Here I am 5 years later as a controller in London  :o

Have fun!

EDIT: Actually, I just noticed your other post in this forum. D'oh!

Aye, long time no speak! Things are good over here, it's starting to get very busy though with the summer schedules coming into force. I need another holiday  :o

Hows things with yourself, still working in St.M's?

Yea still there - for my sins :) Just bought a new camera so I'm looking forward to the airshow season here. There was a family day at RAF Aldergrove yesterday - I'll have to see about getting an invite some year :)
