B-17, what year?
« on: April 16, 2010, 09:17:22 AM »
Found this photo, which may be of interest,  that I took at an airshow at St. Angelo Airfield some years ago. Any idea of the year?  ..I can't remember!

It's the Sally B but their display dates only go back to 2005 and no mention of Enniskillen. Can't seem to find any other mention of shows before that.

This link seems to have it dated: 25/05/1990.

I think it maybe 1995;I was on SallyB at Aldergrove as it had come over for the special 50th Anniversary of WWII airshow.

Didn`t get a flight in it;just a look around inside-very cramped and amazing it was crewed by up to 10 men :o .

It really brought home to me how brave aircrew were, when you see and hear the awful conditions they fought in.

Thanks for that, Angry Turnip. I managed to get inside a B-17 in the States a few years ago, while on holiday, I know what you mean about being cramped! (Photos attached).

As regards the year of the airshow at St. Angelo, it may well have been 1995...I just can't remember! Will try and dig out a few more photos from the event.

Love that first shot. Engine startup I presume.

Casper, yes engine startup, from a distance.
When we arrived at this show, the aircraft were all parked on the perimeter of the airfield, so close it was 'hands on'!
However, once the organisers had spotted the number of people smoking cigarettes in the immediate vicinity, all the aircraft were then sensibly moved a distance away from the public/smokers.
