Ascot 3969

Just heard and saw Ascot 3969 land at BFS Runway 25 to stand F1 on freight apron.
 
Looked it up and turns out its a Tristar,although when I saw it come in,it looked like a VC-10.
 
What sounded like a Herc came in just before and went to RAF side;didnt hear the callsign properly.

Why cant they come during daylight? :'(

I love VC-10`s and they are soon for the chop,so it would be nice to some good photos of them before thay are all retired.

Heard something loud flying over at about 10:30pm last night. Obviously it was dark and couldn't see what it was. Thought is was a VC-10 by the sound of it? Any ideas?

Maybe it was the Tristar heading back, but I didn't hear the turbofan noise of the RB-211's (the plane had already flown over the house).

I looked it up here:
 
http://www.the-guide.nl/callsign/country/gb/  Thanks to PH for the link.
 
It said it should be a Tristar,but it looked and sounded(esp on takeoff) like a VC-10 to me.
 
It`s difficult to ID military stuff in the dark,as the aircraft lighting is different to civvie stuff;no lights illuminating the tail etc.

Ah good. So a VC-10 then? It certainly had that low bypass engine sound to it with very little fan noise and a lot of roar!
