What about the hawk ?

Should be covered by the same clearance given to the Reds.

Hi it seems that the Red Arrows are clear to resume flying. I hope we see them in Portrush and they get the best weather conditions to do their stuff.
What about getting an appeal going for all spectators to wear red. I think it would be superb for them to see the headlands and bay area covered in Red as a tribute to the late Jon Egging. It would also let the others know we admire their dedication, courage and skill in getting back in the air and that they are the best of the best. Eclat.

I don't think there is a chance that the Reds will display again this season. This news today is that the grounding of the Hawks is now lifted. The reds are flying back to Scampton tomorrow and I'd say there isn't a chance of them being at Portrush. They have already cancelled shows up until the end of August.

Thee BBC report of the clearance to fly now has more detail;including sadly this line from the MOD. "The Ministry of Defence said although the Red Arrows could fly again they were unlikely to perform this year".

From the Red Arrows website

http://www.raf.mod.uk/reds/teamnews/index.cfm?storyid=0FE1BF62-5056-A318-A86C0CBA2B62C50E

it seems they will start practicing an 8 ship display from 30th August but will they have clearance to start displaying by 3rd September in Portrush?

Thats a great idea Canon John, but I think it likely the Reds will end this years display season early.
It`s a difficult choice for the team to make;some sort of limited display with a "missing man" formation might be an option.
As long as the team are not pressurised into doing something they really don`t want to do;I will support them whatever they decide.

I fully agree the Team will know what's right and their decision will be totally the right one. I know they will get a great reception in Northern Ireland whether it's this September or a date in the future.

I just had to say something. I think he must be one of the people who are wanting to get the airshow moved elsewhere.

Some good news (from facebook).

Vulcan xh558

Delighted to announce that XH558 is airworthy once more and, subject to the usual weather and tech caveats, is looking forward to flying at Dunsfold. Our thanks to our friends at FPT for working through the weekend and to our skilled and highly professional Vulcan to the Sky technical team, our heroes of the season.

We   received news late last night that the Red Arrows will not be appearing   at Portrush this year. This is totally understandable at a time like   this and our thoughts are with Jon Eggings wife and family and the whole   team. We are working on a fitting tribute for the 3pm slot on Saturday.

Hope this is not too serious a problem? I noted on another site earlier the following. The Vulcan just landed at Coningsby with a Hydraulics Problem.

It was a really scarey moment everyone was listening to scanners when they heard mayday we need to make an emergacy landing hydraulic pressure failure.

Hi on the Fighter Control site it is reported that the Red Arrows were up today. It seems all eight were airborne.and also reported they might overfly the funeral of Jon Egging tomorrow. As was also  commented; flying on a Bank Holiday Monday might mean they are keen to fulfill some of the reamining 2011 season. Good luck to them and I hope all goes well at this difficult time for the team.

Reds were up at Scampton today; but it seems the information about the funeral and a flypast tomorrow were incorrect.

The weather is looking terrible for the weekend, but that was expected. I'll be skipping Saturday, will probably try making it up on the Sunday.

Sadly so Tony. I will not hold my hopes up. I think 2008 was a good year? We actually had sun for most of the day.
