Just realised that I have the weekend of the fly-in (3rd-5th June) off work. So if anyone is interested in going let me know. The arrivals look to be starting on the Friday afternoon. And the displays on the Saturday.

I don`t think there are going to be display`s as such,it`s just a fly-in although some aircraft operators might like to do a few manoeuvres before landing.

The proper air displays are at the festival of speed the following week: Aerostars (Yaks) and a Pair of Pitts specials plus the Irish Coastguard S-61 SAR display.

I would like to see the aircraft, but not much interest in a festival of tyre kickers. ;D

There are 40 aircraft and about 10 helicopters registered to come to the fly-in starting tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. Beechcraft are sending over the new Baron and Bonanza demonstrators, the furthest visitors are coming from Italy in 4 Technam 92s.
If anyone is down at ards over the weekend, or any time, come and say hello!

Is the fly-in free and open to members of the public or do you have to be a member of the Club?

Hi all

I had a fantastic day at Newtownards today and added a few shots below as a flavour of the event. I feel we should all congratulate the UFC on both their Anniversary and how they allowed enthusiasts to enjoy today. Full access to the field, the aircraft and all other facilities; it was a super day and the organisers deserve full credit for this. We had air displays, multi types and at one point around twenty aircraft taxiing holding and departing the field. Well done to all concerned and bring it on again.

I was going to head down today, but not in this weather! You would get a real soaking standing around on a day like that.
I suppose they were lucky to get one decent day out of it.Haven`t been down to Newtownards recently but I hear they are/were looking for a new airfield manager/chief instructor,so I can only assume David Hodgson has gone,he had been there for years.

David Hodgkinson "Hodgy" has left the UFC and is now the CFI at Goodwood. His replacement is David Phillips who has been instructing here for a while now, Scrabo 62 is his current callsign.
The fly-in was a great success and thankfully the weather was very kind. From our records in the tower there were about 65 visiting aircraft and 90 movements on the airfield on Saturday. Most aircraft left yesterday afternoon due to the forecast for today.
Does anyone have any pictures of GBYZP landing around 1230?
Jonny

Managed to make it over to the airfield yesterday. Weather had gone from blue skies and sunshine in Crossgar to overcast when I reached Newtownards  :(

Plenty of aircraft on display with numerous take-offs and landings plus a few pilots going up and putting on a mini-display  :)

Nice pics everyone. A shame the weather didn't hold out, it started off quite bright in the morning! It's been a while since I've been down to Newtownards myself, I still have my fingers crossed for the Airshow to happen again next year.
