Newcastle 2011
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:16:02 PM »
I see the Red Arrows and BBMF are due to be displaying at Newcastle this summer over the weekend of 6/7th August.

Has anyone any further details?

I see the lancaster is scheduled for a display on the 6th (15:20) and 7th (13:10). Both displays to last around 5 minutes.
And the Reds are down for the 6th

Interesting.......sounds like that could be worth a look.

Hope the displays aren`t miles out to sea;I was going to head down to Newcastle last year, but the thought of humungous traffic jams put me off.

Weather last year was superb I believe-nice backdrop to have an airshow/display.

Nice  :)

Is there a specific event on that weekend? Had a look on a couple of event sites for County Down but can't find any mention of anything scheduled for that weekend.

I know that the Reds were over for the 'Harry Ferguson' festival last year.

Was that in August?

A rival for Portrush maybe?
Saw the Reds last year at Newcastle and the weather was fantastic so a summer airshow gets my vote.

Info about this was very thin on the ground last year-almost nothing online.

The Down District Council website has nothing penciled in for August.

Strange.

Yes,it`s weird that ther was so little info on this last year online and seems to be the same this year.
They seem to rely more on newspapers for publicity.

I can`t make it as I am on hols in Italy that weekend, although where we are staying is near an Italian Airforce base with C-130`s and C-27 Spartans. 8)

I live in Newcastle so will be at this :) Just thought you should know over the past few weeks there have been a number of aircraft flying over doing manoeuvres almost like they are practising.  There were 2 Tornado's and a Eurofighter Typhoon, the 2 Tornados were turning upside down etc which was pretty fun to watch. The Eurofighter flew around for about 5 minutes and left.

I live right under the mountains, so when the Portrush airshow is on, they usually fly right overhead on their way to/back from Portrush. Last year as the red arrows were doing their flypast a few hours before the show they flew right over the house full trust. which was an amazing thing to see (and hear)

There have also been a few RAF helicopters around lately too. Hopefully something very big is happening here this year, but the Lancaster and Red Arrows alone will be great.

Hi jas and welcome to the forum. Many thanks for the info. Is this event being advertised at all? There seems to be nothing online about it.

I sent numerous e-mails last year to Down District Council asking for info on the airshow, unfortunately they never bothered their A$$ in replying  :-X

Some info I managed to find on this regarding the BBMF Lancaster Display.
It`s slot for Saturday is 3.20 and Sunday 1.10 with displays 35 mins afterwards both days at Blackpool, meaning it is very unlikely to visit Aldergrove in case some people were hoping to see it there.

Bad news for Newcastle I,m afraid .. The BBMF Lanc has been dropped from the display lineup due to a shortage of available pilots for that weekend  :'( ... we're not the only losers ! Blackpool and East Kirkby have been dropped for that weekend aswell .. we're all still on the display listing though incase the situation changes between now and then :)   a bad few weeks for warbirds .. doubt if the seafire will be airworthy in time for Newcastle after her prang in France and a devastating loss of B17 "aluminium overcoat" in the States  :'( and not forgetting P51 "Big Beautiful Doll" at Duxford a few weeks ago too.

Skyraider is likely to be G-RADR .
Nice engine note and a very agile aircraft for it`s size.Picture taken a few years ago at St.Angelo.

I heard at weekend that a spitfire is due in to Newtownards on Friday along with the Mustang. I know the Mustang is on the schedule for Newcastle, lets hope the Spitfire is a surprise addition
