Could be good news
« on: May 06, 2011, 04:38:21 PM »
Just been on the phone with a company to get the Sigma 150-500mm F5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM. He will give me a call in the next few days to see if it is available not sure of the price but he thinks it should be around £600 so fingers crossed it will be in my hands very soon once we do the deal.

That`s a fantastic lens String,as you know I have one 8)

To be honest I would be suspicious if you can get one for less than £800,you might get a refurbed one for £600 or so,but make sure you know exactly what your buying.

I am getting it from Amazon but when i checked the price it was £700+ but on another site they have the same one for around £600 as they are over stock and they have to go so the company that are selling it through amazon said they would match the price. NICE

Oddly enough I've been looking at one of these at well.

Only problem is my D60 doesn't have an in-body focus motor and therefore won't work with the 150-500mm (restricted to manual focus only).

Looks like I'll have to upgrade the camera first before I can think of getting a lens with 300+ focus.

Thinking of going for the D7000, anyone had any experience with it?

Are you sure about that Merlin?
The lens has it`s own high speed focus meter,so I would have thought it should work fine with your D60,however I`m no expert on Nikon camera`s but it might be worth contacting one of the big camera retailers to find out for sure before ruling it out.
Maybe you have already done that, but if not
Try www.warehouseexpress.co.uk or similar.

Well i don't have much luck at the moment they can't supply me with the lens because of financial issues so i have to save up now and see if they still have them or knowing my luck they will out of stock and not in again untill XMAS. But i will try and get it before the airshow but that will be pushing it. A bit cheesed of at the minute just can't get a break. But such is life up and down It's a wonder im not sea sick. :LOL

It does sound a little fishy to me String. I'd maybe look at getting a new Sigma 120-400mm which go for around £699.

Unfortunately it is my problem not anything to do with the company selling the lens (im broke) because of a death in the family we used all our savings flying the wife over to scotland and it has left us with a big dent and i just can't afford the lens and i have to start saving again.

Hope you enjoy it String-is quite heavy so make sure you support it properly-I strongly recommend you get a UV filter for it-helps to protect the lens, should be around £40 or so online.
It`s an 86mm so can be expensive, but you should find something reasonable.

Very nice String, contrails well be a blast now!  :)  I'm sure it looks/feels like a brute of a lens compared to your old one? Looking forward to seeing some results.
