Leuchars airshow
« on: May 09, 2011, 01:14:39 PM »
This years airshow at leuchars is in serious doubt. The results of the election in scotland(HOLLYROOD) will make a decision on the future of the base not sure when they will make it public.

I've been keeping tabs on the official site and had noticed that they still haven't put up a tentative flying programme or released tickets.

Would be VERY disappointed if it was cancelled. Enjoyed last years show and was intending to go again this year.

Even if the base was to close,I doubt it would happen that quickly;maybe in a year or so,but if it was to close all the QRA stuff would have to shifted up to Lossiemouth, which would be a huge and expensive operation.

Especially given that the Typhoons only moved in to Leuchars last September.

Seems like a total waste of time/money if they were going to be moved out again so soon.

Last I heard, Lossiemouth was supposed to be the prime candidate for closure and Leuchars would be spared.

Has this changed?

Sadly it looks like all bases will close in the near future. but it is up to the scottish goverment to decide what will happen.

It`s more likely that Lossiemouth will be retained as the area has already been hit hard with the closure of RAF Kinloss;the whole thing is a shambles, either way it`s unlikely that the bases are going to close within a year.
However with the ConDems, you just never can tell. ::)
