I like the HDR technique and the shots above are super. I have experimented with ths but I try/hope that I have kept the effect subtle. This sample was a Seaking in Bangor on the Long Hole Harbour wall.

And the same machine landing at Portrush similar treatment.

And the Merlin landing on again Portrush.

These photographs were taken on cold grey rainy days, I felt the HDR saved them never being seen?

Very impressive.

So what's the capture technique for such shots?  Traditionally HDR capture was done through exposure bracketing, but there is very little rotor smear on the heli shots.  I'd expect more smear and blur from three or five bracketed shots.

Hi Smudge I used Photomatix Pro which allows the traditional 3+ shots or a version using a single RAW shot. The helicopters I took were the later.

Hi Paul quality as always. I'm not sure I've ever seen any of your shots that needed this additional touch to look great. I have used it when the light was poor these ones of yours make me wonder if a revisit to some of mine taken in better light might be worth a try.

Good grief, the quality of the above photos is exceptional! Fantastic work, I've tried to take shots of aircraft with my little Fuji bridge camera and failed miserably, so I can appreciate the time, effort and expense put into all those photos by a talented bunch of enthusiasts! Really love the Mig-29 shot!

Interesting effect, but can look rather overdone-seems good for bringing out cloud details.
