Very nice chaps-don`t think the rest of the week will be much good for contrails as its meant to be overcast and wet.

Maybe it will improve for the weekend.

Great photos guys but one for hammerhead and smudge.

How do you work out the reg of some private a/c when they don't show up on the usual Planefinder and Flightradar.  There have been plenty going over but anonymous to the normal enthusiast.
I have a Canon 100D with a Sigma telephoto 75 - 300 which takes great shots but nothing like the clarity of the Turkish one - what's the secret?  Do I need a 500 lens and if so what are your aperture settings and speeds?

Cheers Hasy

Thanks for the correction-I always seem to struggle with the difference in the A330 and B767`s oops  :-[

I took a few shots these evening-was waiting for the World Airlines MD-11,but alas it went too far south and an Air New Zealand went too far north.Drat

I will post my efforts later.

Hi Hasy
No need for a 500mm lens if your in the right place, here are a couple of shots I took with my 70-300mm Nikon lens before I changed to the Sigma.

F-HPJD - Air France - Airbus A380-861 by Lucan Snapper, on Flickr

G-VFAB - Virgin Atlantic - Boeing 747-400 by Lucan Snapper, on Flickr

I also try and go for a low ISO less than 200 if the light allows and then a high shutter speed - 2000/sec or more ..

Thx Hammerhead, reassuring.  You're right about being in the right place, I fortunately live directly under one of the recognised OTT flight paths and on a good day.......with a bit of practice I might join the OTT posting club.  Sounds obvious but must try out a higher shutter  speed with the ISO setting.  Cheers one of the values of this great aviation website.....sharing with fellow enthusiasts! Thanks Smudge-the Gulfstream went over sometime between 1245 and 1320 approx;the reg did not show on FR24 when I went to look.

It was at 36,000ft  over BFS on a track of 299 if that helps at all.
