It now seems as if the data from both the CVR and FDR for the Jeju B737 are lost, or to be more accurate, they were not operative in the last 4 critical minutes of the flight.
So there are still many unknowns as to what happened.

This clip from YouTube explains the situation well...    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CgO01n1px0

The fact that the CDR and FDR do not have an independent power supply on the 737 would be a big red flag.

Not having CVR data is a major blow. How this tragedy unfolded is raising major questions about the crew's actions.

Still don't understand why they did a wheels-up landing.

It's a very strange accident, apparently an independent power source for the CVR and FDR was an optional extra which had to be ordered by the original purchase airline which was Ryanair in 2009. It seems crazy to me that a backup power supply for these is not mandatory.

As for the gear up approach, nothing new has come out yet,an APU was fitted to the aircraft, but from what I have read these can take over 5mins to spool up to usable power.

I doubt the answers will be found for quite some time without the CVR/FDR info at the critical stage. There has been unconfirmed reports that the crew may have shut down one of the engines, possibly the wrong one after the birdstrike.

Was a bird strike reported to ATC after the first landing attempt?

I wonder is the ATC recording available somewhere.

Agreed, crazy that there is not a backup power supply for such an important system.  An awful tragedy and feel for the families after they will have heard this news.

I'm not aware of any ATC Comms being released, there was an advisory from ATC about bird activity but that's all I have found.

Seemingly the flight crew initiated the go around, and secondary landing attempt without clearance,at least that is what has been reported.Still nothing about if the landing gear was deployed or not on the initial approach,it is hard to tell from the bird strike video,as it's poor quality, but I don't think it is down.
