It's live on Sky news.... Tail is at the end of the runway and main fuselage is further down runway... Looks like it just made it onto runway 28L without ditching into San Francisco Bay. Thankfull it looks as if all passengers are accounted for.

What a miracle that all onboard survived! Reported 303 onboard: 290 with 1 infant and 12 crew. Early reports suggest that the ILS was put of service and the pilots did a visual with the PAPI blocked from view by construction equipment just speculation so far we'll just have to wait and see what caused the crash.

Just been reading about this-more info here from BBC News site.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23214513 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23214513)

Seems weird that peoples 1st thought is to put a tweet on about it-says a great deal about modern society.

Looking at this on the news.

They're showing footage of a debris trail stretching from the sea wall to the runway. That suggests the tail hit the sea wall, possibly the reason it was snapped off.

He's got a point! Brace yourself for conspiracy theories!

Is all the fuel in a T7 in the wings? I always wonder how the cabins take so much fire damage as opposed to the wings?

Am I seeing things?

I belive that is something called pareidolia (seeing shapes/faces in ordinary things) woodgrain, carpet patterns, clouds etc are common.

Looking at that video,I am surprised more were not killed,as the main fuselage seemed to get flung into the air on impact,it`s lucky the aircraft did not land upside down other wise I fear there would have been many more killed.

It does look as if the approach was too low, which caused a severe tail strike.

More info and photos here, including an aerial shot of the scene.

Directly from the NTSB Twitter page:

Quote
@NTSB: The flight was cleared for the visual approach to RWY 28L, which is confirmed by the crew. #Asiana 214
@NTSB: Target speed for the approach was 137 knots. #Asiana 214
@NTSB: Sound of stick shaker began approx. 4-sec prior to impact. #Asiana 214
@NTSB: Call to go around made approx. 1.5-sec prior to impact. #Asiana 214
@NTSB: The data indicate that the throttles were at idle and the airspeed slowed below target approach speed during the approach.  #Asiana 214
@NTSB: The throttles were advanced a few seconds prior to impact and the engines appear to respond normally. #Asiana 214

That image of the economy cabin looks awful, I imagine the most severely injured would've sat in the last few rows seeing the conditions of the seats all mangled like that, the forces must have been huge!

I see Sky News is reporting that one of the two teenagers killed may have actually survived the crash only to be knocked down by an emergency vehicle  :o

I heard that on the BBC News as well-if it`s true then that is incredibly tragic-guess their number was really up.

Fascinating pics, yet chilling at the same time;I still can`t believe the death toll was so low in this accident-very lucky indeed not to be much worse.

I saw this yesterday, a bit of a cover-up going on there! It's par for the course to tell lies and obscure the truth than to own up to a mistake.

In fairness to the firefighters,I am sure they didn`t intend to leave an injured person unattended, but this incident shows a lack of basic training skills, and leadership. :o

It seems ridiculous that none of the 5 firefighters that were near the girl did not check if she was alive, either way her location should have been clearly marked, and cordened off. >:(

In fairness to the young girl killed, the driver of the fire-engine that first ran over her was the driver who was stopped and had the injured girl pointed out to him, minutes later he drives over her, another fire-engine drove over her again. The Fire-fighters claimed she was covered in foam and they could not see her, they didn't know she was there. This is evidently not the case, as the video shows.
