Dublin 05/10/13
« on: October 04, 2013, 09:04:56 PM »
HI all

J50KPK and myself are setting sail for Dublin on Saturday, with the promise of some decent Autumn weather. It'll be my first real chance to use my Canon 100-400. I also hope to practice the much vaunted and award winning "spray and pray" method of capturing aviation shots! Now where would I get a floppy hat!!!

Hardly necessary unless you're at the Mach Loop chasing really fast jets - you'll just wear out your camera shutter a bit sooner...

The "spray and pray" and hat reference was a rather poor (as it turns out) in joke!!

We are back and had a great day, thanks Jim. A light shower and cloud on arrival was quickly replaced by Sunshine, it became warm and very pleasent all day. So some pics the first few in poorer light the rest in really good light.  I'd appreciate your comments as it was my first proper go with the 100-400 lens. A couple to whet the appetite then bed I'm shattered.

Nice shots there, the grass banks at Dublin are getting very steep, and I noticed last time I was down,at long stay parking they have put up a fence,so it`s very awkward to get up/down that bank and retain your dignity  :)

Thanks guys I am pretty happy for a first go. I've added a couple now after the sun cme out again any thoughts I'sd appreciate them.

AT the banks was great for when on it but a nightmare getting back down. In wet conditions it would be damn near impossible.

Nice one John, glad to hear you're liking the 100-400mm, getting used to the push-pull mechanism ok?

DUB's quite good for spotting at these days, the raising of the mound beside RWY 28 has made quite a difference.

By the way, did you not have a Sigma 50-500mm recently?

HI Dave Yes getting used to it still on occasion try and twist but getting better. Yep the mound was good I had my steps but even with my little legs I didn't really need them. It was getting down the bank was the issue we saw a few near misses. I did indeed have the Sigma but it suffered a fatal accident at Ards Airfield. It fell out of a fire engine, don't ask!! Anyhow the insurance stumped up and I received a cheque for the value. Whilst I had no complaints with the Sigma I always really wanted the Canon 100-400. So I added the difference and changed.

After yesterday I have to say I'm very happy with it yes the light etc was brilliant but I have sharper images than the Sigma in my humble opinion. I never had any like this from it
