Flypast 2nd November
« on: October 28, 2008, 12:47:21 PM »
Found this with regards the homecoming parade scheduled for Belfast this Sunday

Quote
Depending on the weather and operational requirements, it is expected that two RAF Harrier GR7 fighter-bomber aircraft, two Army Air Corps' Gazelle helicopters and an RAF Puma transport helicopter will take part in the flypast.

I have been working so much recently that all news had escaped me. I wondered as to how the aircraft fly over's will be dealt with, weather permitting. Fly into the BHD airport early Sunday morning and prepare for the fly over's from there. Or perhaps fly from BFS from the current RAF base.

Anybody planning on heading up for the event? I believe the weathers to be good all weekend.

The flypast aircraft will operate from RAF Aldergrove as they always do-they don`t use BHD because of security problems and the lack of ground support-it`s all at Aldergrove so no need to relocate.

The flypast will probably fly over Lisburn then on down the Lagan valley to Belfast and pass overhead the City Hall---then out over Belfast Lough before returning to Aldergrove.

Thanks for the info Angry Turnip.

I believe I read somewhere that the home coming parade starts at 11 and lasts for an hour or two and unfortunately there are planned protests to clash with the parade.

I think that was a mistake to cancel it. The flypast if anything would be the least offensive thing they could have done. Of course, that's just my opinion  :P

Folks I'm going to lock this thread as I don't want any posts getting too political. We all have our views on whether the parade should go ahead or not but I don't want them being aired here. One thing I think we have agreed on is that we're disappointed that the flypast was cancelled.
