The C130 was booked in 2012 I believe, but due to a misunderstanding it never came as they thought it could land. Never seen the Falcons before. Does the C130 do a few flypast's first or is it 'drop and go'

Yea, I think this is the most ever from the RAF.

4 more jet displays to be confirmed (2 solo, 2 formation apparently according to Down Council) Looking at a great show this year.  :)

The Chinook has never made it to any displays over here that I'm aware of - it's been booked in the past but never turned up.  :(

C130 Herc too then for them to jump from :D

Wouldn't it make more sense for them to jump from  a helicopter as there's no place for the Herc to land and collect them after the jump?

They use a Chinook or puma sometimes...

lol Norn Iron and politics [especially South Down]always go hand in hand !! :(  Iv seen the Falcons jump at shows a few times now and one of the team always has a huge Union Flag attached to him !  wonder will that aspect dissapear ??  lol  .. same thing happened last year regarding some ground "recruitment" stands ! they were conspicuous by their absence !

A Chinook would be ideal, and something a bit different for those of us that have seen them jump from a Herc before.
The Herc usually does a short tactical display and low pass or two,and I`m sure the Chinook could do something similar before landing and picking up the team.

Maybe the Herc could land on the beach at Ballykinler and a Naval vessel return them after the drop? They do land on occasion at other beaches, a Top Gear event springs to mind.

More or less. I spoke to them earlier this week and they told me 'We hope to appear in Newcastle (Near Belfast) in August'

Their listing is for Belfast though atm. I assume they will be stopping there.

OK, it is actually confirmed by DDC. Though I must stress, we did not actually release the information early  like they say. We did hint at 'another display team' but would not post until it was made official by DDC themselves

Quote
B/E Aerospace and Down District Council are pleased to announce a new jet display team for the Festival of Flight on 9 August.

The Gnat Team has recently added a third aircraft to their fleet but at this time not all will be at Newcastle. Although an unofficial site for Festival of Flight has suggested that all three aircraft will be in Newcastle the Gnat Team can only confirm two aircraft at this moment. Unfortunately a member of the team prematurely released the three ship information to the media. Down District Council has stressed its desire to see the three aircraft which were originally booked and we wait to see if their pilots can re-arrange their holidays to facilitate us.

This shows the wisdom of coming to the official DownFestivals Facebook for accurate information rather than one run by aviation enthusiasts. We do not always post information immediately until we are certain that the bookings are firm.

I think that piece from DDC is rather cheeky :( -there is nothing to stop any airshow act answering a question from Joe Public or the media. ::)

I can understand DDC wanting to hold back until things are confirmed, but they don`t have a gagging order, plus not everyone uses Facebook.

You don't know what you are missing:
Harry Potter - films are good but books are better
Matrix - 1st film was unique the rest just cash cows
LOTR - 3 outstanding films.

The Ulster Military Vehicle club will be returning. And apparently the UAS Spitfire will be on display. Though DDC have said the Gnat so far is only a 2 ship and have requested the 3rd... the Gnat 3 ship display lists Newcastle, and speaking to someone involved in the Gnat team have said they do hope to be doing a 3 ship baring mechanical faults etc.

I would think so, unless its a simply display and leave. But I do think a few will go up to Belfast before/after the show.
