Antonov at BFS
« on: December 12, 2008, 04:36:22 PM »
Did anyone see this last saturday? Heard from a friend who was up with Air Cadets and
he said there was an Antonov in bringing back 3 Pumas from a deployment in Kenya.

Haven't heard anything about it. I'm assuming it was a AN-124.

I think I heard something about this aircraft... I think it may have come in after sunset and departed later that night, so no real opportunities to see the thing :(

It was an AN-124 but I had heard it was bringing Pumas back from Basra and it came in on Fri night.

AN-124`s used to come into BFS fairly often bringing fuselage assemblies from Shorts to Canada I believe.

The missus uncle used to live up that way (and play golf) - he says the AN-124's used to come in right over one of the courses he played on, routing to Aldergrove.A magnificent sight by all accounts. 8) 8)

Saw one flying over Lisburn a few years ago but this is the closest I've been to one - Farnborough 88.

I saw one at Farnborough 1986-must have a look for my photos of it and will post up when I do.I recall Land Rovers being driven out of the back of it-I lost count how many were in it but at least 30 I think.

Yea, must have been the An124, it matches the description my mate gave me of a big white plane with 4 engines. So much for being an air cadet, I thought they knew these things. lol.

Should really get myself up to BFS sometime. Is there anywhere you can find out about these flights coming in?

The airport sites only show scheduled flights, doesn't seem to show chartered or cargo flights. So not sure where you could find this info :(

Think that's just a lucky catch, probably was listing to ATC.

Calm Down Chips!-don`t insult the boss  ;)

There are a few Cargo Airlines that have sites that give an indication of when their aircraft will be in certain airports.

I emailed Antonov regarding this but got no response-probably on the Vodka :D Hic!!
